Goldie, one more day! How brilliant is that!
I'm glad Mr Goldie could use the info on the rail discount, thats great to know it means it didn't increase in price for him. And its a great idea to write letters ready to send to HMRC, rather than dash the holiday mood when you get back by doing it then.
And since you're going away, you *have* to put your Christmas decorations up now, you need to get the benefit from them, after all :j
I'll miss you while you're away! Just remember you have to tell us the stories when you get back :A2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

That's exactly it - I needed to get what I wanted to say out of my head and on to paper (or in Word at present) so I could then forget about it for a while, and start thinking about the holiday.
I haven't even written out a packing list yet - that's most unlike me, usually I've got a list going at least three weeks before we sail.
But I'll start that tomorrow.
I promise I'll come back with lots of cruise stories to tell!Early retired - 18th December 2014

Hello everyone!
Yes - last week :T:j
Today and tomorrow are my last two 'home alone' days. I'm going to get all the housework type of things out of the way before our holidays. I find it much easier to do housework when I'm home alone - after the 18th I may never do housework again! :rotfl:
I managed to do a packing list for our holiday. It revealed I'm very short of casual trousers and / or jeans to wear in the winter. I can get by for the weeks holiday, but another pair would be nice, and it's the sort of thing I'll wear all the time in future. So, I'll nip out early tomorrow to see if I can buy another pair. I was going to overhaul my wardrobe in the new year anyway, so I'm just starting early:)
I'd better get on - the sooner I start, the sooner things are doneEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Sounds good to me, thats a sensible purchase
Hope the stores aren't too bad round you, and loving the idea of never doing housework again :rotfl:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I went out this morning to our local M&S, and found the perfect pair of cords in exactly the right size. I tried them on and they fitted perfectly, so I bought them.
Maybe I'm not as far away from the consumer society as I thought, as it was a major buzz making this purchase!:rotfl:
But they were just right, and I will get a lot of wear out of them.
This is my last 'home alone' day. I got most of the housework done yesterday, so today will be leisurely, just pottering around, pleasing myself. I might get a few things out for the holiday packing, but I have tomorrow and Friday to do that, so I don't have to rush around.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Hi MCI, hope all is well with you.
I looked at my bank account earlier, and was surprised to see that my pension had gone in. It's usually paid on the 20th, so I thought it'd be a bit early, but not quite this early.
This means a new financial month has started for me - the first retirement month :j
I've changed the way I budget in line with this new start, and the new way is going to be much simpler for me to record and track. Full details to follow at the end of the month, in my Plan for 2015!
For this last month the figures are
Groceries/supermarket £239.17, or 72% of last years monthly average
General spending £406.14, or 76% of funds allocated for this purpose. Good result here - included are things like my hair cut and colour, more theatre tickets, subscription renewal for Live services on sat nav.
I didn't include the money we are spending on food for our leaving days - that's a one off and won't be happening again
So, we've achieved our aim again this month, so I'm very pleased with this.
When I come beck from my holiday I'll post my review of the year, and then the plan for 2015
(I've never had written reviews and plans before!)Early retired - 18th December 2014
