Thats *very* interesting - and yes, I'm the same, if I understand the principle behind something, I'm much more likely to be able to stick to it. Hopefully there won't be much difference between what you eat now and what you need to eat to be low-salt, since you make a lot from scratch. Trickier on the eating out, tho.

Here's to feeling rested and relaxed :)

Sorry to hear about your health.. but glad you've had a day of rest and relaxation :D

Will work need to train new people for your job? Might be better to take a step back, let someone else learn it and be less stressed..

Just catching up. You really have been through the wringer. Well done on the research and the reading/low salt connection. And avoiding stress. Thankfully you have those early retirement plans in place.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

It has been a bit of a week, that's for sure !

As luck would have it, I had my monthly 1 - 2 - 1 meeting today, and was able to tell my line manager all that has gone on, and she really has been very good about everything.

Whenever possible, I'll be doing either of the two job roles that I find less stressful. As Shala-Moo says, this is a step back, and I think it'll be very helpful.

I also confirmed my leaving date as 18th December, although I don't need to given written notice until November, but at least they can start making plans.

The leaving thing has become a bit submerged in the rest what's going on, but I'm completely sure it's the right thing to do, especially at this time.

I intend to have a relaxing weekend, doing not much at all really

I attempted a reduced salt pizza for lunch.

I made the pizza base with half the salt mentioned in the recipe, and all the toppings were salt free apart from the cheese. But on Mr Goldie's half, I also included bacon.

My half 'cost' 1.65g. That's a lot less than it could have been, but it's still a chunk out of 4g. It tasted ok, but next time I think I'll grind some pepper over the base before putting the rest of the toppings, to pep it up a bit

I've been putting less salt into my bread as well. It recommends 1tsp, I've gone down to three quarters of a tsp. So far I haven't noticed any difference in taste, so I'll try reducing a bit more.

Even though I'm reducing my salt in the bread, I won't have any for tea, as lunch was relatively high. Mr Goldie will have poached eggs on toast, but I'll have two poached eggs with tomatoes and cucumber on the side.

I'm looking forward to getting a cookbook and finding some good recipe sites. I've played with menu planning in the past, but I think I'm really going need to get to grips with it now so I can have a good varied diet

Got another £10 from Opinion Outpost to day - I managed that in 2 weeks. They are the only site that I get regular surveys from

Well done on OpinionOutpost - thats really good! I don't dare get going on another site while I'm still trying to do Yougov etc - I've also remembered I was going to do some cat website promotion (*my* webste :) ) on maximiles, so I might keep that too, I'll have to investigate.

As far as the salt goes - its about flavour, isn't it, so probably the herbs and spices need to be upped quite a bit, to ignore the lack of salt. Thats the way I discovered chili :) (and it helps with arthritis too).

Hope your weekend is going well.

Hi, Karmacat ! Having a really nice weekend here.

It's amazing what can make you happy!

I downloaded a book on to my Kindle about the Meniere's, written by a fellow sufferer.

One of the things with Meniere's is that the hearing can fluctuate, getting worse at the time of vertigo attacks. He recommended the dialling tone test.

You listen to the dialling tone on your phone - if you notice you aren't hearing it as well as usually, you could be nearing a vertigo turn, so you need to relax and take it easy, to try and ward off the attack.

I had my audiology test at the end of July, and was really down about the results, as I was a lot worse than I was at the start of June. When I got home after the test, I tried the phone, and couldn't hear the dialling tone at all.

But now with my new knowledge, I had three spins in 11 days at the end of July, so no wonder my hearing was bad. I picked the phone up yesterday and could hear the dialling tone again. Not as well as in my good ear - but I was insanely happy !!

So I'm going to do this test every day, to make sure I don't over do things if my hearing drops.

It means so much to feel you have at least a little bit of control:T

Dinner was very straightforward - roast chicken and veg, no stuffing or gravy for me.

I've done an online order for groceries - it felt a bit hap-hazard as I'm in a transitional stage, but I'll get there!

    Hi Goldie,

I remember when my dad had to cut down salt my mom swapped him to Lo Salt.. don't know if it might be helpful to you at all, but thought I'd mention it.

When DH was first diagnosed with high blood pressure, we set about reducing his salt content. Got the gravy granules and stock cubes with 25% less salt; stopped adding salt to veg, potatoes, pasta or rice when cooking and tried to persuade him to drink more water to help flush the salt content out! Also used more herbs and spices and less processed meat.

It turned out that DHs blood pressure problems are genetic, so I don't really know if helped, but we managed to bring his salt level down without impacting too much on flavour.

Like to see it as a cooking challenge - hope you have fun with the new cookbook.
