Hi Goldie! Yep, that *does* sound scary :( I'm glad you were okay - the cruise cough doesn't sound good though, *and* it interfered with your OH's trip too :(

I remember all the chat about what you were going to do as you got back - illness wasn't on the cards! Yuck :( hope you're better really soon, especially now that spring seems to be taking a firm hold.

I want lots of stories about the six toed cats, please :)

Those 6 toed cats were fascinating - they reminded me of that advert for milk 'Cats with Thumbs'

They are reputed to be descended from Hemingway's cat, and have the run of the property. Everywhere you look, there's a cat sitting, climbing, playing or sleeping. I was out on the upstairs veranda, and one of the cats was waiting to be let in. (I liked the fact that it was confident that *someone* would let it in at some point). So I let it in to the bedroom, and it jumped straight on to Hemingway's bed!

Were gradually improving with our colds. As yet we haven't managed a full night without coughing, when that happens, I'll declare ourselves as recovered.

I've finally managed to clear all the washing and ironing - it was epic.

While we were away, I managed to lose 2lbs in weight, which I was very pleased about. I ate more than normal, but I was mindful about what I ate, and tried to eat as well as possible. I was also very active, and made sure I did at least 10000 steps a day, sometimes a lot more.

But, since I've returned, there hasn't been much in the way of activity, this cold has really sapped my energy. Hopefully, this is improving now.

I also discovered it was important to be mentally active, as well as physically active. I started doing Sudoku again while I was away. I used to be really sharp with puzzles, but haven't done them for years. I was horrified to find I couldn't do the simplest level! But, after a lot of practice, I've improved. I intend to do a few puzzles everyday to keep my brain ticking over.

We spent just about what I thought we would, so was pleased with that.

When we 'did' America in the 90's we used to buy a t shirt from almost every location. The tshirts are still there, but we didn't buy a single one. I just didn't feel the need anymore.

A few months ago, we decided against going on a coach outing to see 'Kinky Boots'. Well, another outing has come up, for June, and we've booked this time. I don't want to 'deny' ourselves things we want to do, so we will be taking these opportunities when they come up.

I think we are all guilty of not using our brains as we should. I know I rely on calculators far too much and its a shock when you realise you're not as sharp as you used to be.

Hope the last of your cold disappears soon.

  • Sounds like an amazing trip, despite weather issues! I strongly recommend seeing Kinky Boots, it is a real feel good show x
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

I think we've both turned a corner today, as there's hardly been any coughing at all.

What a relief, it was getting us both down.

We've been able to sit outside on our dodgy bench. It has been mended several times, but still creaks every time we sit on it. I'm sure it's going to collapse at some point! A new bench is on the cards for this year.

I'm kicking myself, as I broke one of my nice Denby bowls this morning. I heated my porridge in the microwave, I took it out and was carefully carrying it to the counter, and it literally jumped out of my hands! It's a discontinued line and I've checked all over the Internet to see if I can source a replacement, but there's nothing around at the moment. That will be an ongoing project.

Mouse update! When we came back from our holiday we were shocked to find that all six blocks of poison had completely gone:eek:

But maybe it's killed them off, as we put the traps back down, and haven't had any mice caught at all.

We intend to get a load of wire wool, and stuff up as many holes as we can find, in the hope we can get a permanent solution.

Due to the unpredictable weather this Easter, I've been spending time getting on with a few jobs inside

I've ordered an Asda 'big' shop that will be delivered tomorrow.

I've done my wardrobe sort out, and all the clothes that make me feel tatty will be going in the fabric recycling bins tomorrow.

I also pulled out a few more bits that I won't wear again, and they've gone on eBay as auctions.

I've also listed a few odds and ends that I've put aside for eBaying, as 'Buy It Nows', and four out of the five have been sold already.

It's been about 4 months since I've done any eBaying so I feel in the mood for it, hopefully don't get any problems like I did at the end of last year
