Sheffield cancelled half-marathon. No Refunds

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-26920499

I expect there are similar threads here for such situations. But if an event is simply cancelled by the organisers, surely it can't be allowed to refuse refunds simply because the T&Cs say "No refunds"
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Sounds like an unfair term to me - I'd think they should have insurance to cover the cost of refunding participants if something happens that means they cannot deliver the promised event.

To be fair they really do need to offer a 50% discount to runners who turned up yesterday, for the race in 2015. They may very well lose the elite runners now anyway but many club runners and enthusiasts may be more likely to run in 2015 .-if the organisers can use the publicity to their advantage! They could now use the services of someone like Max Clifford now , but i believe he is a bit busy at the moment!

I thought the race went ahead anyway as the police couldn't stop it?

The race was cancelled but it turned into an unofficial run.

The official finishing times are up now on the website but unlike races there is no finishing orders- just chip times!

Just watched the video clip on the BBC new webpage quoted in the first post.

Man with megaphone announced the race has been cancelled - can hear the disappointment from the runners and the crowd.

Then in true British style - The runners just carry on to cheers from the crowd. Its little things like that which make me proudt to be British. :)

I would suspect if forced to refund, the limited company that organised the event would just go bust. Not sure if they are profit making or not.

Maybe he did it, maybe not (that's for the courts) but he's certainly not managing his reputation as well as he did his clients...

In that case, they should have had suitable insurance.

Not sure what sort of insurance would cover a situation like this. Would depend on why the water did not turn up.
