Landlord sells property and wants us out

No, the LL and the agent told us that they were looking for someone who would hope to stay for 2-3 years. So when I was told in Jan that they are looking to sell the property it came as a big surprise.
I'm so sorry you're in this position. I know just how you feel as the year before last we too took on a tenancy supposedly long term then landlord decided to sell 4 months in! They are scumbags.0 -
Would it be a fair compromise to ask for a return of the deposit and I agree to leave by the 31st of May that they have requested, rather than getting into the nitty gritty of whether the notice is appropriate, etc? Also, the notice they sent mentions only one of the tenants and is not addressed to the other signatory in case that has any impact?
If you want to leave then instead of negotiating with the landlord over the return of your deposit before your tenancy ends I'd just withhold the last month's rent.0 -

I was under the impression that if I withheld rent then I would loose some rights?0 -
What rights? If you're going to give your own notice and move out then all that matters is that you get your money back.0
-
Cost me a fortune to move after I got served an S21, agency fees for renting were about 450 quid, plus removal costs and other misc stuff

True, hadn't thought of it that way. I just thought that withholding rent could later come back to haunt a tenant if the issue went to court.0 -
My LL is now arguing that they received the deposit from the letting agent a week after we paid it to the letting agent.
If I as a tenant paid the letting agent a deposit before the tenancy started, is that the day from which the 30 days start?0 -
The agent is..... an agent of the landlord. As such he receives the deposit on behalf of the landlord. My LL is now arguing that they received the deposit from the letting agent a week after we paid it to the letting agent.

So yes, 30 days starts when you pay it.0 -

Thank you for the clarification. My LL is arguing that they received the deposit from the letting agent late, so therefore the 30 days does not apply to them.
Also, they are arguing that they do not need to issue an S21 as they are pointing to the break clause in the contract. And so they are arguing that the legislation regarding S21's and deposit protection are not valid.0
