You shouldn't use softener on towels, polyester fleece (it ruins it) or microfibre items anyway.

    What!? Seriously?

Why wasn't I made aware of this sooner?

I've been washing my towels, and using fabric softener on them for 10 year now. And I'm only finding out now that I've been destroying them every time I've put them through the laundry!?

    OMG.

Well if that's the case, the towels made these days must only be a fraction of the quality of the ones they made ten years ago. Because when I place a new one next to one of my old ones, they look and feel exactly the same!

My older ones originally must have been like wrapping yourself in a massive fur-lined, 20.5 tog duvet! Which kind of makes me wonder how I used to squeeze them all into my tiny airing cupboard.

Either that, or fabric softener doesn't 'ruin' towels at all and Infact does exactly what it says on the bottle and actually softens the fabric. But that can't be right, surely?

    ;)

I am also very skeptical about people claiming to have allergies to fabric softener now.

I started this post about two weeks ago now. And I told you all my wife was whinging about being itchy all the time, and insisted it was because of the fabric softener.

Well, I told her I'd stop using the cheap Lidl one I'd found and go back to using Lenor or Comfort, the ones she liked, and even bought a huge bottle of the stuff.

Well I didn't. I've been using what I had left of the Lidl one since my original enquiry, because I wasn't going to waste it, I'm a moneysavingexpertier after all, and hate wasting stuff. The lid on the Lenor remains firmly shut.

When I asked her if she'd noticed the difference she was really adamant she had, and said she felt much happier and more comfortable now, and thanked me for being a wonderful husband!

I'm dying to tell her, but I won't. When I finish the bottle of Lenor, I'm just going to go back to Lidl and buy their cheaper stuff and just pour it all into the Lenor bottle!

Allergic to fabric softener! Yeah, whatever.

It's funny, but I remember when I was a kid, and no one was allergic to anything? No nut allergies or lactose intolerance. Very few people had asthma, I think we had two in the whole school!

    What's happened?

    Air Cooled 75, you've got to tell me if it's a Type 1 or Type 2. I've '67 Type 1, and a '66 Type 3, a Razor Edge! ;)

The cleaning product manufacturers taught us to fear bacteria, so most of us (not me) go round trying our best to kill every bit of bacteria on the planet.

As a result our immune systems now have nothing to fight, so it fights things it doesn't need to fight just to keep its self in fighting condition.

Doctors call this an allergic reaction! And if you have had an allergic reaction........ you've got an allergy.

Allergic reaction is also a handy "catch all" diagnosis for minor things that will go away without treatment, and aren't worth further investigation.

So someone goes into the doctors because they vomited. The doctor knows it's nothing and will clear it's self up without treatment. But the doctor also knows the patient wants to know what it is etc. So he asks them what they have eaten, they say something like "egg and chips". So he says "You've probably had an allergic reaction to the egg, good bye."

The doctor is happy because he got rid of a time waster in record time, and the patient goes away with an egg allergy.

Right, now I'm off before I get bombarded by all those people who are, or know someone who is allergic to nuts and will die if they even look at one :D

    I've been Money Tipped!
Fabric conditioners were irritating my 5 year old dd down below.
I realised it was the fc after a switched to vinegar - no more digging, redness and being sore.

Your 5 year old double D's?
  • Hi,

I mix conditioner and vinegar 50/50, for two reasons, makes conditioner last longer and vinegar helps keep machine fresh, no slime and muck build up, oh and there is no pong from the vinegar, so that's three reasons.

Making clothes out of used crisp packets, and lubricating your car's engine with the sunflower oil from drained tuna instead of engine oil may save you money, but sometimes it makes more sense to spend a little money. It'll save you even more money in the long term, and you won't look like a tramp.

That show was just awful. I don't think a single person watching it ever used any of the money saving ideas the 'experts' put forward to the nation.

Please tell me what ideas you came up with. I'm dying to know now.

I think you might be on the wrong money saving site, you seem to decry ever suggestion made, just go drive your Lamborghini and throw money out for the tramps and vagabonds, sure they'll appreciate your generosity, though you sound like a pompous tight git.
