What if the dust bag belonged to another bag of the same make that the seller has/had? Can we say for certain the one in the photo was THE one supplied with the bag when new?

It doesn't matter- there was no reason why the dust bag was included in the photo unless it was to deceive. Why hunt round to find something that is commonly sold with all good bags and add it to the photo for the sheer hell of it?

I'd have expected the photo to be of the CD's personally. again unless the listing said "discs only" i'd be expecting the box as it was listed.

This wasn't an eBay ad, it was a glossy 4 page spread in Computer Shopper magazine.

There is another aspect to this, and that is; people who got used to eBay early on as a second hand junk shop of auctions, seem to have one take on eBay and those that see it how it largely is now, a mega store of cheap goods, the two groups have different views.

It's clear you would never write to the later (megastore) and say "where's my 50 pence piece that's in the shot?", but people do write to sellers of small auction items with the weirdest of questions and demands. (I was once asked to send the AA batteries to a product even though they were dead as the product wasn't "complete" without them. (which I complied and sent them the dead batteries)

If the brand on the outside of the dust-protector it sits in while it's in your cupboard is important, go for it, but if you just want it to be protected while you're not using it, try these:
    http://www.tesco.com/direct/tesco-basic-twin-pack-pillowcases-white/649-4548.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=649-4548
and the handbag will be nicely protected from dust for about the same price as the additional postage, with no hassle in negotiating with the vendor!

    Handbags have dust protectors?????

I'd ask them to send it, and if they refused then give them 1* for description in the feedback.

if it wasn't included, there was no need to photograph it!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

The only ones of mine that came with dust bags are the Radley ones. The bags alone with the Radley name can be worth money as an individual item.

Maybe she just sat the handbag on the dust bag to photograph to stop the handbag getting dirty (if it was on the floor). I agree that if she didn't say it was included then it probably wasn't and would have asked first if I really wanted it (lesson learned I suppose). Then again why keep a dustbag if selling the bag unless she had another bag she wanted to keep in it.

If the dust bag and been photographed next to the handbag and not underneath it then I would probably assume it was included.

Have you checked her other listings to see if she has sold the dust bag separately? If she hasn't maybe message her asking if she would be willing to sell the dust bag or look on Ebay for another seller who might be selling one.

The sloppily listed auctions are the ones you need to clarify with the seller.

You shouldn't have to, but it would save headaches like these after you receive the item.
  • Having sold many items on ebay before, usually dustbags are photographed to make the handbag seem more genuine (many are fake I have to say). A friend of mine had a similar problem when she brought a bag and there was a photo of the 'original' receipt to prove it's real. The receipt of course didn't come with the purchase and some months down the line was used to sell another handbag.

I think in this instance you may have to just cut your losses and possible give neutral feedback to warn others.

Thank you to everyone else for replies and opinions.

Seller is going to forward on the dustbag, no quibbling :)

.... And the pillowcase idea to protect handbags was great!
