SORRY I HAVE PUT THIS IN THE WRONG SECTION I SHOULD HAVE PUT IT IN INTERNET BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO MOVE IT
I am hoping someone can save me from having to ring bt india again and what they laughingly call the help desk.
I am with bt "total" broadband and up till 5 days ago everything was fine and i was getting 6.5 Mb speed. All of a sudden 5 days ago the speed dropped to 512 kb and now today im getting only 130 kb just how low can it go.I have not installed any new software or changed any settings
I phoned the call centre and was told to go through a long list of things like clear the internet cache temp internet folders and lots of other stuff.
I am getting a really bad hiss and crackle on my phones i have checked the filters and even brought two new ones but when the broadband light is on on my router a home hub i get the crackle but if i plug the phone into the phone socket and turn the router off there is no crackle.I have also put my old bt yoyager router in and there is no increase in speed and still get the crackle.
Bt have tested the line and its ok apparently i have had a private guy round who has tested my internal phone cabling and its ok too.
If i get on to BT india again we go round and round in circles testing speeds deleting temp internet files turning on and off routers and its still the same.Has anyone got any ideas please hELP:mad:

Has it been raining in your area - sounds like the line is wet and soggy to me - I don't think there is much you can do appart form spend long time on the line to BT til it's sorted. Sorry.0

try taking the face off the master socket and plugging in the router into the socket behind. if your speeds go up then there may be something wrong with the internal wiring. if there is nousE on the line then tne adsl max regulates the speed down to try and eliminate it.0

I havent got a master socket as my first socket is a small GPO grey box but i have unplugged everything and tried my home hub into the socket next to the gpo small grey box and the speeds still dont go up.If i just plug a phone in and no router the phone line is crystal clear. As soon as the broadband light on the hub lights up the phone line crackles and whines even though i have tried lots of filters0

Why?
I always ask to be put through to a person in the UK once I know I am talking to someone in India and they normally transfer you.
I have had such bad experiences with Indian call centres that I don't even bother to start a conversation now as I know all I will be doing is wasting my time.

I would be interested in the solution to the crackling noise problem as we get the same behaviour with the bt hub we have at work.0

it's normally water in the cable somewhere between you and the exchange
does NOT always show up on the line test !!!Ex forum ambassador
