About £60k - but they wouldn't know that if they didn't do a credit check presumably?
Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.
  • £60k is a lot, even for someone earning enough to pay 40% tax.

Add on the credit limit on the card you applied for, and that's one hell of a lot of available credit.

Perhaps they are worried you might go silly, and spend more than you can afford to service.

Not that old chestnut again, credit card companies make money every time someone uses the card whether they pay it off in full or not.

Not as much as if you pay the minimum:j . My point is each issuer has different criteria. The fact you have 60K on other cards is probably another factor too. Companies now are obliged to lend responsibly (Yeah right) so they may see your unsecured debt as too high

They are probably thinking "this guy won't make us any money, it will cost more to administer the card" .

Which has been stated many times on these forums is a load of rubbish, every time someone uses their card the companies are making money.
  • If it helps they rejected me last year for a clarity card - via online application, then I phoned them about something else [notify i would be using my debit card abroad] and the assitant asked if i wanted a clarity card.

We went through the process and I was approved. Give them a call.

Not enough to warrant the expense of maintaining an account. At 2% a £500 monthly account only generates £10 gross profit.

Sometimes having less customers results in a more profitable business.

Nobody has stated the obvious, there must be a Credit Policy Decline on the OP's account with Halifax

You'll just have to keep trying every 6 months, they don't credit check you anyway if you are an existing customer

You can ask in branch if you have a CPD on your account

Agree zerog - that must be the case with me - although oddly I have my mortgage with them.

I have the clarity card but have never managed to get them to increase the limit, odd as one of my other providers rang yesterday to ask if I wanted an increase but Halifax turned me down again at the weekend.

Same as OP, home owner (no mortgage), lots of cards elsewhere, I try to keep the limits within what I want but I may look at them again to think about reducing some.

Lady on the phone was not very friendly and did ask if I had bank/savings accounts with them which I don't may look and see if they have anything decent on offer to possibly help smooth the way and I'll look for a free credit check (never done that).

I have opened a couple of TSB bank accounts and a LLoyds one this week, will any of that gone against my credit score (no overdrafts requested)?
