Leaving Pipex

Hi,

I have done a search but seems to be some conflicting information about.

I want to leave Pipex, who I've been with since 1994. Some say I need to give 30 days notice and others not. I can't seem to find any information on Pipex's site.

Further, they take my money off my credit card every month, I want to ensure they don't continue to as my previous experience with Pipex has shown they are very underhand. I once paid them for an extra one-off service with my credit card and the sneaky !!!!!!s kept my credit card details on file and used it for something else much later. I presume I can just phone up my credit card company and stop Pipex from taking anymore?

Cheers! ;)

Contact Pipex to say that you want to cancel, they'll advise on how many days notice you'll need to give (i'm pretty sure its 30)

can't advise on the techie details unfortunately but with regards to the unauthorized debit of your monies then yes, that's exactly why paying with a credit card is a good idea. phone them up, saying you longer want Pipex to take any further monies and the card company is obliged to act in your accordance. just from a legal viewpoint, however, do make sure what the notice period actually is.
strange, isn't it, i always heard really good things about pipex. i know they were more expensive but always thought the premium was attached to good service?
BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

On the whole the pipex connection has been fine with maybe 1 or 2 problems per annum. But their customer service has always been crap. Just a very lazy attitude towards customers. Not responding to letters and 30 minute wait times on the phone. Admittedly, the last time I called them was probably 4 years ago. They might have changed their ways.

Well, thanks to a posting on this forum, I 'phoned Pipex last Tuesday (26/6) to 'request a MAC'. Was put through to a chap who knew what he was on about(!), decided to go for the BB+'phone+rental at £23.49pcm for the first 6 months.
On Friday had a letter from Pipex confirming rental; on Monday a letter from BT; on Tuesday I noticed that the 'net seemed more 'agile'.
Tried a big download and it ran at 16MB of file per minute (had been 3.5) at about 0830. Couple of hours later it was 14MB/min.
The chap at Pipex tested the line and said 1.5Mb/s but I'm getting 1.8-1.9, so not too bad.

Well, so far... Now to see how Pipex and BT handle the money side of things:rolleyes:

    Peter.

I think you'll find that once you given consent for a continuous charge authority from your card you can't cancel it.

Only the company the payment is being made to can cancel.

Even cancelling the card doesn't get rid of it.

And pipex are well known for carrying on taking the money and being impossible to deal with for refund etc.

Yes, a friend was paying for a server, the company pulled out but continued to take money. He cut up his card and sent it back - that stopped it.

When I had this problem with EDF I went on line and cancelled it.

Cancelling the card does not mean the charge is cancelled, sometimes it seems to but not always.
There are plenty of people who still get sent the bill months later from a cancelled card.

Also see this BBC report ....

Robert decided to cancel his card but his account with the card company carried on, so the debts kept piling up.

    Telly Savalas:

Just out of curiosity were Pipex paying you more in terms of wages for essentially dual skilling on calls?
