IIRC existing customers can usually open by post even if the conditions say "branch only"
I sent an email for "details and an application form" on Saturday. We shall see how that progresses.

Meanwhile, for existing members, and who can't get to a branch of the either Society, Saffron BS are offering 4% @£1250 per month, opened by post and with access during the 12 months anyway...

I just had an idea...well it is that time of year :)

I have just completed my 13/14 Regular Savings ISA with Nottingham BS, which is why I was monitoring this offer.

I had pretty much made up my mind to ignore the CASH ISA this year and use the max S&S ISA but was unsure what to do with the dormant NBS one above. I have a couple of previous years in a Santander 2yr fix with another 12 months to run, so transferring the old NBS (now 1%) to the new 4% would be ideal but obviously not allowable.

So my thinking is to transfer the old NBS to my S&S ISA then open a new NBS with the max £1250 for 4 months then 1 of £934 and 6 of £1 to make the Cash limit of £5940 then use my remaining allowance (at the appropriate time) £9060 to the S&S.

A bit convoluted but effectively gets my old ISA up to 4% for most of the year.

    Can somebody check my logic.

    Cheers

    Alan

    Thanks for the update here.

If its like the last one you'll be able to pay less than maximum (per month) and make up the remainder at the end of the year.

PS Anymore info on the two fixed rate (1 yr and 2 yr) they are due to offer? Thinking specifically about chances to 'top up' in July.

The fixed rates are 2.2% and 2.6% (1 and 3 years) but only for those who had an ISA with them last year.

Hence if you do take out this RS ISA you can possibly look foward to similar offers next year for your loyalty.

Is this the best out there? Considering dip feed from 3% santander 123.

What rate does it have to be in july to match this? Assume I put in 15k

The 2.2% fix is for a 2 year term.

No problem in transferring your last years Nottingham Isa 3 into a S&S Isa.
There is no £5940 for cash ISA's from July, so if you wished to put £1450 x 12 into the Nottingham starter ISA4 that is okay. You could then transfer the £15k plus interest to a S&S ISA at the end of this tax year.
Or you could split your allowance and put some into S&S and some into cash.
It all depends on how much cash you have floating around and where it is. With so many current accounts paying 3,4 and 5%, plus regular saver accounts paying from 3%-6% it is a complicated arrangement to try and make the most of your money!!

Thanks Careful_ly, take all your points.

The main aim is to save 14/15 in S&S and find a good home for the 13/14 Cash NBS. Like I say rolling it in to the 14/15 NBS would be ideal about the best I could do on a max 1 year deal, if i could do it.

Although my thoughts sound odd dont think its much worse than rolling my other cash beween current a/cs :)

    Cheers

  • Could anyone please tell me If I opened one of these by visiting my nearest branch, is it possible to make payments into it by online banking or would I have to visit the branch 20 miles away?
Also do I need an account at NBS to qualify?
