It is really simple, if you want a facebook account create one with a nick name and not your real name. So something like Keyser666

Secondly if you are going to use LinkedIn dont do what AP007 does and look up prospective people who maybe interviewing you as they will know you have done so (settings permitting). Setup a fake LinkedIn profile with a generic name and title of recruitment consultant and then you can look at others profiles to your hearts content

LinkedIn is meant to be used for that type of thing, it makes sense to have a real profile. You make sure to keep it professional. It's not meant as another facebook/twitter.

Why not look up people? I don't get that. If you are looking for a job you do that.

I have no photo there and my full name is not visible.

Also have a go at making a FB page with a nickname - you wont get far.

I always look up people who are going to interview me on LinkedIn. I'm pretty sure that's the norm and fully expected.

LinkedIn imho is used for networking, having a nose at someones profile is something else. I do not treat it as facebook nor twitter, totally different things and not comparable

Yeah I do assume a lot as I had a nickname on FB and over 2 years ago I was logged off until I entered my REAL NAME in full on it so had to put my real name in.

You still haven't said why looking at someones page on LinkedIn is bad? You can't network if you dont look at peoples pages and get in contact with them. A bit like going to a networking event but stand in the corner with your back to everyone and don't talk.

    https://www.facebook.com/#!/

Well I am trying it now and its asking for two names

I can put Twinkle in the first name and then it still wants a surname.

I would then not be 'Twinkle' I would be Twinkle Simth for example and that's not the nickname I would want :)
