You still do not understand what I have been trying to say in my last several posts - it is nothing to do with me being happy or not. I just do not consider this acceptable for anyone to snoop on anyone else online.

As to jobs asking for a photo - perhaps essential to some jobs like front f the house reception etc. And that does not surprise me to be honest as person representing a company/meeting/greeting - should look good. Anyone who thinks it should not matter is kidding themselves. legal or not - this is life.

I do get it but it happens all the time. It's not illegal so they can do it no matter if you or I see it as unacceptable.

    Look good or be pretty?

I have seen hiring managers laugh and pass photos round when they hired for Henley and mocked the girls as they were not 'pretty'.

I have seen jobs in accounts asking for photos too and that can be open to all sorts of descrimination.

I finished my last contract last week and starting new one next week - took a week in between to just relax.

I added most people from my last job to my LinkedIn contacts but not on FB, they are not friends, they are work contacts - and with contracting very useful to be honest.

MY FB has nothing to do with what my work is and should not be snooped on. If someone does not understand my basic right to having a private life - I would not work for them/with them.

It really is that simple. And believe me , you will know if someone tried to look you up on sites that are not work related. Odd comment here or there and you will know.

Re photos - as I said, I have one on LinkedIn and I send a link to my profile with any application I make. I really do not see a problem with that to be honest.

If you want to use Facebook (I don't) and add friends that are also work colleagues then fine, do it. If they are friends as well as colleagues, then why not add them?
Why should people compartmentalise others as just being colleagues or just being friends? Makes no sense. People can be both.

If people regularly go on benders and take drugs, posting this on to Facebook then it says something about the kind of person they are, to be quite honest. Maybe they should not try and get !!!!ed so often and not break the law by taking drugs.

Likewise, in the example of the person pulling a sickie and getting sacked for posting their day out at Alton Towers. If they hadn;t have pulled a sickie, then they wouldn;t have been sacked. If they had posted details of their day out at Alton Towers at a weekend, or when they would not due in at work then there would have been no issue with their employers.
In both these situations it is not Facebook to blame - it is the character of the people and/or the actions they took that ended up landing them in trouble.

Working is part of your life, just as your spare time is. They are part of one and the same thing - who you are as a person. How you behave in one area, will when it comes to the crunch, impact upon how you behave in the other.

Don;t really think this is rocket science.

They won't get anything useful out of my profile pic and cover photo other than the fact that I am a fan of the Hobbit.

It's no different to researching the employer when going for a job.

I did once, for a small company (Dad & Son expanding the business) do a google search on the Dad. Entirely irrelevant to the job but telling him where he played tennis did evidence my thorough preparation and ability to fact find potential clients.
