Lloyds Bank wouldn't talk to me

Did you ever give Lloyds your MSE nickname? In which case, I wouldn't blame them.

Seriously, though, why are you going for the "annual review"? It is nothing more than a sales meeting, in which they will be trying to sell whatever is the flavour of their day.
If you have financial requirements that are currently not being met by your joint Lloyds account, you could post those requirements here and poeple would no doubt provide a cornucopia of ideas.0 -
It's entirely possible that the caller only had your husband's name to call. Unless they had access to the account details they had no reason to know there's a joint account.
These calls are sometimes made by third party companies who are only given the bare minimum of information.0 -

He was there, but busy, so I told them we have a joint account and therefore they could talk to me. They refused to talk to me and insisted on talking to him, although they told me it was 'nothing to worry about'. I passed the phone over, and it turned out they just wanted to arrange a date for an annual review.
This begs several questions -
a) why wouldn't they talk to me?
b) if he hadn't been home, would we not have been offered the annual review, just because they wouldn't talk to me?
We will be going along to the review, and we will be asking some very important questions.
Has anyone else had this happen? I can understand (sort of) that they need to speak to a named person if it concerns a particular transaction, but this was a very general enquiry about something that would be of concern to both of us.
What if he has some business with them you know nothing about, and he is entitled to keep private? Plenty of people have joint accounts but it doesn't mean you don't have other separate arrangements for credit cards, loans, mortgages etc.0 -
pmduk - this is the most likely explanation of all. I didn't know they did this.
Archi Bald - glad you like the name. But seriously, I know what an annual review is. That's not really the point of my original post.
My point is, there was absolutely no reason why I couldn't talk on his behalf to simply arrange an appointment.
Oh - the five minutes is up. I wonder how long I'll have to wait for my phone call?No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
As pointed out the person calling (possibly not from you branch) would have likely had a screen with his details and no one else's. If the call was a personal one from someone at your branch, who you knew and had dealt with before, then it may have gone differently.
The sad truth is that the big banks like to talk about 'making it personal' more than they preach it.0 -
Hit the nail on the head! Maybe it was a savings account for the world cruise he'd been secretly saving up for? As it turns out it wasn't, but that's not the point. They have procedures/systems to follow. What if he has some business with them you know nothing about, and he is entitled to keep private?
A few years ago my bank told someone I had a joint account with that I also had a sole account in my own name.
It cost them a lot of money once I'd submitted my formal complaint!
OP, the review/sales pitch/whatever was for a person, not the account itself...something you now realise?0 -

Ah, so he isn't going to attend the sales pitch.trailingspouse wrote: »Biggles - he is far from gullible.0 -

I don't know - we used to have hours of entertainment listening to double glazing salesmen and then saying ' as we told you at the start, we just wanted an estimate of cost for the time when we can afford this, but it's not now, goodbye'
Cheaper than the telly :rotfl:0 -
