Lloyds Bank wouldn't talk to me

Well, I've just answered the phone and it was Lloyds bank asking to talk to my husband. He was there, but busy, so I told them we have a joint account and therefore they could talk to me. They refused to talk to me and insisted on talking to him, although they told me it was 'nothing to worry about'. I passed the phone over, and it turned out they just wanted to arrange a date for an annual review.

This begs several questions -
a) why wouldn't they talk to me?
b) if he hadn't been home, would we not have been offered the annual review, just because they wouldn't talk to me?

We will be going along to the review, and we will be asking some very important questions.

Has anyone else had this happen? I can understand (sort of) that they need to speak to a named person if it concerns a particular transaction, but this was a very general enquiry about something that would be of concern to both of us.

    a) Because they wanted to talk to him.

    b) They'd have called back.

Why are you so keen to be sold something?

It's probably because the computer only had his details on screen, and they have to follow what the computer says.

    I wouldn't worry about it.

Because they wanted to talk to your husband about his accounts. Funnily enough, discussing someone's bank accounts with someone other than the account holder is something that the law frowns upon.

    a) I can understand that his name came up on their screen, but it's a joint account so surely it can make no difference to them if they talk to me?
    b) What a waste of their time!!

I understand that they want to sell something - what I don't understand is why they positively refused to try to sell it to me. At some point in the future will my name come up on their screen, and they will refuse to talk to him if he answers the phone?

But she says in the OP it is a joint account?

Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if that happens one day

They've obviously worked out that he's more gullible - obviously correctly, as he agreed to the sales meeting (sorry, annual review).

Why anyone would go along to one of those (especially if two people go along, which is wasting twice the time) I have no idea. Most people just say, "No, thank you" and end the conversation.

I am the account holder - it's a joint account. We are jointly and severally liable. This wasn't a phone call about the account per se - it was simply to make an appointment. I wouldn't expect them to discuss specific transactions of my husband's with me (or of mine with him), but surely if you're making an appointment with a joint account holder, to discuss the account, it shouldn't matter one jot which account holder you talk to.

They hold a joint account. If her husband holds any credit cards, ISAs, savings products, loans or secondary current accounts that Lloyds want to review then they're not going to talk to her about them. Their joint account is irrelevant.

Biggles - he is far from gullible.

GingerFurBall - this is likely to be true, although this wasn't the reason I was given on the phone when they insisted on talking to him. They just 'needed to talk to him'. Even when he told them he was busy and could they just discuss it with me, they refused!!

I will await their phone call to review my account with baited breath. If they're going through their account holders in alphabetical order they should be calling in about 5 minutes...
