I had a problem a few years ago with Santander. I didn't check my account daily and ended up £2 overdrawn. When I found out two days later, I immediately paid the money in, however Santander said they were charging me £50 interest. I couldn't believe it and went back to complain - they said yes the figure was wrong, it should have been £70 interest. I wrote and complained to the manager who, after several letters, refunded the money to my account, but then took it back again the next month. This went on for almost a year with my eventually having to complain to the Financial Ombudsman and ended with Santander refunding the money (which with all the interest they had charged on the overdraft amounted to £120) and giving me £100 compensation. The moral of this story is - please write and complain to Santander and if all fails, complain to the Financial Ombudsman.

Unless you live in a rural village, you should never be going hungry in this country.

Even if you have to rummage through bin bags in front of a shop after it has closed.

Done it myself several times for fun, not that I need to, but a friend was showing me the ropes

There is a network of people in every big city which knows exactly what time certain shops put out their unsold food for the taking - and if you choose correctly you don't even need to get your hands dirty, just show up at the appointed time and they will hand you some sandwiches - it saves them having to buy bin bags too

I have gone longer a week without food before!

Sadly, you don't seem to have learned from past problems. It sounds like you'll have to learn to budget better. That includes ensuring you have food until you are next due money, preferably with excess so you can build a store cupboard. And not running your phone credit down to nothing. Emergencies do happen.

If you've no support, you need to learn to be independent. If you're on benefit you can ask for a short term benefit advance.

I'm not going to suggest any more, as you appear to be playing the yes but game.

as for the rabbit i was been serious not rude, i like to live off the land once in a while and i was prepared to send you a rabbit all skinned, gutted and cut up ready to cook. How about a brace of phesants, or a nice sea bass ( i fish too )

Its been such a long time since I had a rabbit. The local butcher stopped stocking it some years ago and I havnt seen one for ages. I always thought that the wild rabbits were contaminated with myxomatosis?

no not at all most wild rabbits are quite healthy, till they get shot.

pale blue eyes are a clear sign of an infected rabbit.

Also, if you have 50p and nothing to eat, you should really be using the 50p to buy food, not Internet access.

Exactly, the £1 used for internet access (OP posted two days) could have been used to buy £6.66 worth of sandwiches and/or pasta bowls at most Tescos after they mark them down by 85% after 7pm.

This post has to be a windup. Who would use their last £1 for internet access if they haven't eaten in 3 days? If this behavior was reflective of the persons everyday behavior, it's not a bit of wonder they are in this predicament in the first place.

OP I just read your post and there's a couple of things you can do to prevent this happening again.

    1. Speak to the bank and get an agreed overdraft if you're only overdrawn for 3 days then that is something that can be managed.
    2. Always buy your basic emergency food when you get paid.
    3. Go to the shop gone 6pm - 8pm as you can pick up a loaf of bread for sometimes as little as 6p and freeze it. Also get some bargain baked beans around 24p a tin.

You don't need to starve in this day and age if you don't want to ask family or friends to help then thats your choice.

    Good luck

I always do that as you never know if you'll run low on food due to feeding friends and family when they come over.

Not everyone is orgainsed or can find the cheap food at the time when they need it as the reduced food gets snapped up quick.

As for the internet access you only pay £1 if your using the wifi on your own laptop or you have asked for a second hour on their machines as you get one hour free internet access each day.

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time of it. You mention you're on esa have you checked you are getting all the benifits you're entitiled too. You can do a check on this website which might help you.

    http://www.entitledto.co.uk/

Depending on the nature of your health problems / mobility problems it might be worth contacting your adult social services for an assesment. They might be able to put you in contact with charities who can help with food and transport or care depending on your needs.

Also have a look on some of the other sections of the forum for ideas about growing your own food, and old style money board has lots of ideas to make food go further.

It might be worth looking at something like swagbucks to help genereate some other income in the form of amazon vouchers, which could be spent on kitchen roll etc.

I actually contacted the ombudsman who contacted santander.
Now they found out I was infact only over drawn by 1.50 ( omg!)

santander told me i owed them £25.00
second call told me I owed them £45.00

third call told me for each day unpaid till my cash goes into bank would be no more than £45.00 and my money when in the bank 2 days later would cover this.

somehow they calculated that any payment I made after that date came upto £125.00 I said how did you make that figure up when I agreed to pay you when money cleared which was 3 days after being told!

they then contacted me said you owe us £125.00 in fees

I said No I don't I have checked she shouted at me so I hung up rang c.a.b who told them you know this is incorrect why persue it,

they have been forced by c.a.b and ombudsman to cancel my debt as it's 1.50!

I am now never ever using their bank! they told me the over draft I asked for did not cover the expense.

I said to her right well I am happy to inform you as soon as I can find another bank who treats customers with politeness then I am out. I said you have treated me like a criminal shouted at me over 1.50 over drawn i said honestly you're trying to rib me and I don't have respect for being robbed. I said if I had been overdrawn by a lot I'd understand it but going off your head at me with letters through my post threatening me I don't like.

turned out to be only £1.50 over drawn amazing.

I am getting help with my financing and I will be changing banks this week. Goodbye santander.

    I have had many issues.

for several years for some reason my card would block birthday or christmas like they knew decent cash coming in lets shut it down hold her cash. I would have to re order a card! I had this happen 8 times which there the last time I wa sin an office and had to provide passport!

    no joke!

the worst company to leave for me was the post office omg..I needed birth certificate passport the lot just to leave that company was a nightmare 4 trips to them too.

I want to change banks and where needed have an overdraft with somewhere safe. Santander has made me go which bank service is safe who can I trust if anyone?

    this is very disconcerting!
