I think Bing are being rightfully cautious here. With a bit of effort someone with the right IT knowledge could probably hack a Bing account and cause all sorts of damage. It would be much harder for them to ring up get through the "what was the name of your grans first cat" type security.

I am sorry, I don't know where you stand legally, but I think you should be reassured that they want to check your mum is who she says she is.

This is just so petty. It can't be the only thing the op is like this with in life. Makes you wonder what people like this are trying to achieve.

Check the OP's Ovivo thread, anybody who has a different opinion is wrong.

There isn't a law that says they must speak to her on the phone, other than the DPA, which other users have advised on. But there is no law that says they can't require this.
As someone else said, they can ask for things like digits from the card/account, the cost of the last payment etc. It would be irresponsible and insecure to ask for/send these details by email.

So, yeah...they're within their rights as allowed by the law to request that she calls or to ask for permission to call her.

People aren't being trolls when they say that Bing are doing the right thing!

In fact, my mum ringing them is surely less secure than the request in writing via email, which is definitely coming from the email account that is registered to the bing ads account.

If someone knows the email account registered, then spoofing the sender email address is fairly trivial.
