Brittania parking fine - for not displaying FREE ticket!

Hello all!

I have been issued a parking ticket on my windscreen on a retail park. I did not realize that I had to display the ticket even though it was FREE! That was the first time I ever went to this tesco store and as normally I just park and walk into the store. As it was my first time I visited this particular store I dint know about the rules.

I made an honest mistake and will be careful next time, but putting a fine of £40 for not displaying a FREE ticket is NOT FAIR! And if I dont pay up in 14 days it raises to £70!

Please help me! What do i do??!

When did you receive the ticket?
Are you the registered keeper of the vehicle?
    Was this in England/Wales?
  • Yes. It is in england. Received it last week (less than 14 days). Yes i am the registered keeper.

The standard advice on this sort of matter is to wait for a notice to keeper to arrive through the post (29 to 56 days after the ticket was issued). You then appeal using the appeal template in post one of the Newbie sticky thread.

In the mean time, have a read of the Newbie sticky thread and the flow chart in post 12 of this thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4922055 to get acquainted with the process.
  • The other standard advice is go and speak to someone senior at Tesco and ask for the ticket to be cancelled. I would expect that Tesco would be happy to do this because they don't like annoying genuine customers. If they don't play ball get in touch with the local papers for revenge while writing the letters mentioned in the sticky thread once the notice to keeper arrives in a month or so's time.

    Mainly, Don't Panic!

Hi - I can assure you that the offer above from kirkbyinfurnesslad is a genuine offer of help.

The website is currently under construction and will be going live very shortly - there is no obgliation to take up the offer and full details will be sent to you first about the service.

ICO registration has also just been secured.
  • thank you da_rule.

I could wait till i get the notice to keeper in post but just concerned that I would have to pay £70 later.

I spoke to the tesco store manager and he said that it was a different company they had no control and that it was a retail park blah blah blah....so he was not helpful.

What are my chances of winning?
