Ive just been conned by these b*stards as well. we had a tv licence held in my partners name which expired on the 28th march. on the 28th i logged in under her details and proceeded to pay for the licence, but as the card was in my name i had to put my details in. I clicked on the link 'paying for somebody else'. filled in all forms and paid.

they just emailed me the tv licence which is now in my name and not hers, and now expires on the 28th February!

I felt sick having to pay them £145 for 12 months let alone for 11 months.

The thing i hate most in the world is the tv licence. Conning dirty pigs. i can't wait for them to open in the morning.

Because you brought it up. :)

But there is no way on Gods earth the BBC will go subscription and/or any combination of. And I think you already know that.

All that talk of "turning off the signal to non-licence holders" sounds like certain people in high places are keen. I'm just assuming that they don't know what they are talking about.

So 10/10 for a good solution to the future of the BBC, 0/10 for practicality.

Usually *I* don't know what they are talking about either.

Ha ha ha! But this subscription thing. I can't see it happening. But I can see BBC Commercial spreading its wings in the UK.

They already own half of UKTV - isn't that enough for a "non-commercial" organisation?

I can see this going one of two ways:

    - Quite a new and novel approach, which whilst it can't be subscription from day one, could take us in that general direction.

    - Some piecemeal extension of the fee to cover the BBC's paranoia about LLF people watching only catch-up. If this solution is too draconian or too impractical, then I can see the relevant members of the public rebelling (even more than we currently do) and bringing the whole thing into further disrepute, such that it has to be changed again.

Easy way from a collection point is to simply add it to the council tax payments, everyone gets that bill.

No-one will like it, Some will still not pay, but its a quick way to put the payment mechanism in place.

Politically doing it is another matter...

I'm not sure adding it to local authority bills would be either desirable or feasible. The local authorities would be against it because it would seem that Council Tax was going up.

I didn't say it would be liked, I was simply pointing out if it was decided that everyone address in the UK was to be billed regardless of TV use the Council tax is an easy way to do it.

Its one of the few bills everyone gets and isn't yet oursourced or sold off to private companies.
