Re-routing the main phone line & also Sky?

Is this an !!!! of a job or is it not too bad? And what does it entail? I suspect i'd have to get Sky & BT to do their bit as i doubt i could do it without knocking the house down.
Basically both are into the living room. For reasons as listed in the DIY forum, it's unlikely we'll be able to use the living room for the foreseeable future (when we finally move in) and we'd just have to 'live' upstairs.
I was thinking of having the main phone line into the master bedroom or perhaps even bedroom3 as this will be the room where the PC is & it (broadband) could then plug direct into the mains socket.
Then there's the TV. As said, we'll not be able to use the living room so we'd want to be able to view Sky in either the master bedroom or bedroom 2 at the rear of the house.
We have a Sky dish & there's some sort of wiring in the living room from either Sky or the ariel.
Here's the layout:

So what does this entail & is it a bit of work/cost?

I don't understand. Do you mean both phone and satellite sockets are in the living room which, for reasons you haven't stated here, you can't use?
So what, exactly, is your question?0 -
It should be a simple matter to re-route the Sky connection from the dish to the Master Bedroom. It's on the same side of the house as the living room. The only work involved would be drilling a hole for the cable to enter.
Instead of fitting a new Master socket for telephone/broadband, why not leave it where it is and use portable landline phones and wireless internet?0 -
Sorry, i'm confused as to how you're confused?Moneymaker wrote: »I don't understand. Do you mean both phone and satellite sockets are in the living room which, for reasons you haven't stated here, you can't use?

And as i say, for the foreseeable future, we wont be able to use the living room. It most certainly rules out TV being in the living room. The phone could still go in there, but we're not big talkers & it'll be mainly used for the internet. I don't like the idea of powerlines & i'd like the router plugged direct into it so it'd be handy i think, if it could go into bedroom 1 or 3. We may get one of those phones where you can have another connected in another room & they both ring when a call comes through.
That's ok then. Thanks.Moneyineptitude wrote: »It should be a simple matter to re-route the Sky connection from the dish to the Master Bedroom. It's on the same side of the house as the living room. The only work involved would be drilling a hole for the cable to enter.
And when it comes time that the living room is useable again, i take it that the line just gets snipped & re-routed back to the original hole that leads into the living room?
I'm not a fan of wireless internet, unless connecting via iphone or similar device. For the PC i have always preferred a wired connection. Faster & more reliable. I'm not a fan of powerlines either. Besides, the house is lacking in sockets so i don't want to use them up needlessly. I know i can get adapters, but still, i'm not a fan of powerlines.Instead of fitting a new Master socket for telephone/broadband, why not leave it where it is and use portable landline phones and wireless internet?
Though we are wanting a phone setup where 1 will be in the living room & another in an upstairs room - probably master bedroom.0 -
For the sake of clarity, you mean this?JustAnotherSaver wrote: »For reasons as listed in the DIY forum...

For phone line, you can get wireless handsets that include another charger unit that can use (which doesn't need a phone cable to it).
As for the internet, can you not use wireless? or homeplugs?
For Sky just have a second feed added to the dish - most recent dishes will have a quad ouput - to allow Sky+ boxes and multiroom feeds. That was can easily revert back to the original setup (or add sky+ in future)..What side of the house is the dish on compared to the bedroom?
These approaches are probably cheaper than the added cost of openreach \ sky performing the work..0 -

I don't mean to sound rude here but i'm not sure why we're sticking on why? I can't see how it matters because then all we do is drift off topic.Fruit_and_Nut_Case wrote: »For the sake of clarity, you mean this?
But to answer - do you really think that a pile of old plaster & general rubbish is going to stop me from using my living room as a 'normal' living room? I'm not sure what you think i'd do - leave it in defiance - "well i didn't put it there so i'm not moving it"?
This one sounds interesting actually. I don't want wireless internet, but wireless landline sounds ok. Never heard of that before tbh. We could do with 2 phones - 1 for upstairs 1 for downstairs connected to the same number. For phone line, you can get wireless handsets that include another charger unit that can use (which doesn't need a phone cable to it).
From personal experience at my mums, it's annoying when you get a call on one floor but the phone is on the other floor.
I can...i don't want toAs for the internet, can you not use wireless? or homeplugs?
Good call. Never thought of that. There are 4 ports on the dish that's on our house & i think only 1 of them is taken up, or maybe it was 2 i can't remember now.For Sky just have a second feed added to the dish - most recent dishes will have a quad ouput - to allow Sky+ boxes and multiroom feeds. Dish is on the front of the house same as the bedroom & living room. In fact it's located probably directly halfway between both rooms. What side of the house is the dish on compared to the bedroom?
Depending on whether we need our ceiling sorting out, we may end up sleeping in bedroom 2 so would then need the sky wiring to the rear of the house. I'm hoping it doesn't come to this though as i don't want to be sleeping in that room.
Wouldn't they be performing the work anyway? I wont be drilling into my house & feeding lines. I'll end up bursting some pipe or splitting some wire & killing myself. :rotfl:These approaches are probably cheaper than the added cost of openreach \ sky performing the work..0 -

I already suggested this at post # 3 of the thread.

Any independent installer etc can perform this work.JustAnotherSaver wrote: »Wouldn't they be performing the work anyway?
Since the thread topic has been answered rather comprehensively (twice) already, I'll take my leave of it .:p0 -
It's like when you teach a child their times tables & they can get 3x7 but they can't get 7x3 for example. You can say the 'same' thing but differently & someone gets one but not the other. You said portable, i thought you meant cordless, someone else said wireless so then i'm thinking some other form of technology.Moneyineptitude wrote: »I already suggested this at post # 3 of the thread.
I never have understood why some members seem to be in a rush for a thread to not receive a single other post. I can only guess these people don't really talk much & all conversations are kept to a minimum.Since the thread topic has been answered rather comprehensively (twice) already, I'll take my leave of it .:p

No, there are only cordless phones. The DECT variety do work far better than the old ones with huge extendable aerials though…JustAnotherSaver wrote: »You said portable, i thought you meant cordless, someone else said wireless so then i'm thinking some other form of technology.
Your thread can receive hundreds more posts for all I care, but not if they all simply repeat what has been said previously!0
