As promised, back with my challenge for this month:
How did I get here?
Never been brilliant at managing money, got given a big overdraft when I was at university, had some problems that lead to me dropping out and changing university and spent foolishly to try to deal with those. Then went into teaching, continued to not be very good at tracking spending and didn't pay off the overdraft.
Now: Eventually realised I hated teaching, quit and took another job and am retraining. This has been amazing for my sanity, work life balance and future career prospects, but meant a significant salary cut and another qualification. So I'm now paying off the overdraft, trying to track every penny and cut the junk food so I can lose weight. My goal is to be able to afford a gym membership when I pay off my debt.
Right... goals for the month:
1. Have 15 no spend days. (I usually manage about 5, so this is ambitious to say the least, but I'd really like to make this number!)
2. Up to payday (15th): spend as little as possible, use up the food in freezer/ cupboards before buying more, and no buying junk food.
3. Avoid nice coffee/ tuck shop/ travelling food van at work. I take lunch in everyday, I do not need to buy more food.
4. Reduce electricity use now the lighter nights are here.
3. After payday: continue to use YNAB. Set budget of £150 for food and stick to it.
4. Leave the office for at least 30 minutes every lunch time and take a walk.
5. Revise for exams at least a little bit everyday.
6. Make another payment towards overdraft.
7. Overpay overdraft to get it under £1,000 (about £70 overpayment, depending on April interest)
8. Stop procrastinating and write this damn essay before I go insane.
9. (this is more a hope to the universe) Car to pass MOT without needing to take out of what I've paid off the overdraft.
Looking forward to my april power shower!Proud to be debt free September 2014. :j

OK - these are my goals for this month:
how i got here: stupidity! Plain and simple! moved house, got a new job - they were incompatible and meant a ridiculous amount got spent on travelling that I couldn't sustain and OH lost his job which pushed us even deeper into the mire. Also - credit and Payday Loans! The bane of my life and my lovely OH who has never been good with money saw it as a green light for us to spend, spend, spend.
The result? hardship, suffering - mentally and physically, and going back to zero to start again.
But now, with greater determination than ever I am back and I'm going to beat this and I am NEVER going to owe anyone anything ever again!!!!!!!!!
Goals for April:- 19 NSDs!
- Pay off 1700 debt (including a whole credit card in one go! F&F offer)
- Spend only the 170 we have this month for any and all spends.
- Enjoy my birthday at the end of the month without spending anything!
- NO giving in to the OH with his pizza addiction from the 'Papa'
- Enjoy what I have and the opportunity I have been given to sort myself out and start again
That's me!
PS - debt free day: August 2014 (hopefully)

Long time lurker to your challenges NSK, please count me in to the April challenge! You are a true inspiration to many including me!
I've decided to take a (hopefully) sabbatical from work to spend six months travelling from November. So I'm saving hard to cover all the costs and think this is the best way to focus my mind. So here are my goals..
1. Have 15 no spend days (this is an epic challenge for me!)
2. Use up food in the freezer & cupboards before buying more, and no buying junk food.
3. Set budget of £80 for food and stick to it.
4. Leave the office for at least 20 minutes three times a week and take a walk.
5. Stop procrastinating and write both assignments and get them in on time.
6. Add to my store each time I shop to take to the food bank.
7. Clear the garden and get seedlings in for veg in the summer.
8. Exercise at least three times a week for 30 minutes.
9. No more than 1 meal out per week.
10. Complete at least three jobs been putting off in the house.
Looking forward to it!!0 -
Evening all,
So, how I got here... I was debt free until I finished university and started renting a house. I bought everything for my perfect new little home on credit card and then I moved and bought more stuff etc. My OH also does not manage his money so I am often fighting for both of us to reduce our spending, however my debt total is all mine and I chose to buy all the items so I intend to tackle the debt and hope someday he has a lightbulb moment. To be fair he has got a lot better in recent months
I got paid on the 25th so have already paid toward my debts, the total of £489.82
My goals for the month are:-
1. Have 15 SFDs.
2. Food budget for 2 humans and 5 animals = £280(the cupboards were bare by payday so stocks of everything need to be replenished)
3. Personal spends budget = £150 – to includeMother’s Day presents
4. Petrol budget = £100
5. Pay off the remaining credit card debt.
6. Be nice to myself and treat myself to one beautytreatment.
7. Declutter 30 items.
8. Lose 4lbs
9. Complete 10k race in less than 1.5 hours.
10. Go to the gym at least 10 times.
Looking forward to the challengeLBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)
