they then gave me a date of the 27th march 2014 I was told by the judge that I will be banned for 21days and fined 270 total (including other costs)
Ask the court exactly when the ban starts and ends. Presumably as you were sentenced to be banned on the 27th of March, this is when the sentence starts. Are you currently driving?

No I have not touched the car at all I really do miss it,
I have been taking the slow sticky London underground which can take me up 2 hours travel and costs sooo much more car journey was 40min max

It's the court that disqualifies you - the DVLA are just record keepers. If the court banned you for 21 days starting on the 27th March then you can drive again as of the 17th April. If the details were incorrectly recorded by the DVLA that wouldn't affect the fact that you were banned between those dates - though I suppose it might affect your chances of getting caught if you did drive.
  • i guess its a risk, I have only been stopped once in my 9 years of driving, but I think I can wait 13 more days which everyday I count and mark off on the calender

to be honest I have not yet. I wanted to wait till I get paid on the week my ban ends so I can pay for the extra cost

the car is in my wifes name and I am 2nd driver.
    would it make a difference?
  • I have a quick question again

I understand it is 4 years till the endorsements come off my license.
but which date do I go by. I found the following links one section says from the date of offense and 2nd link explains date of conviction.

    https://www.gov.uk/penalty-points-endorsements/endorsement-codes-and-penalty-points

    https://www.gov.uk/penalty-points-endorsements/how-long-endorsements-stay-on-your-driving-licence

I was stopped in july 2012 - summons date
first court date was 27th feb - conviction date
but i went to court after on the 17th march - sentence date

Which date do I go by and give the insurance company?

If it relates to a disqualification the earliest you can ask to have the endorsement removed from your licence is 4 years from the date of conviction, as it says in the second link. If it was for penalty points it could be removed 4 years from the date of the offence. So you can have it removed on 27th Feb 2018 (or possibly the 28th, can't be bothered to check).

With insurers it depends on what question you're asked, but from memory most ask about the conviction date.

Note that having the endorsement removed from your licence doesn't mean you don't have to declare it to insurers. Currently they can ask about offences for up to 5 years from the conviction date, and most do. By the time the endorsement comes off your licence it's likely that most will be using the MyLicence system which means they won't ask you about your convictions at all, they'll just ask for your driving licence number which will allow them to get details of current endorsements directly from the DVLA.
  • right I rang the insurance company up they are so confused.

i was on the phone for just under an hour while a few different people gave all different responses.
and in the end the want a copy of my licence to see what does it say on the licence.

not bad overall two policies and total increase was just under £200 and the kind operator waved the admin charge on one policy and charged me on just one.
