As I'm way off point: I've heard that people talk of MrT, MrA, Morries and Sainsbobs (to name a few) to stop companies tracing the names in posts. Is this true or do people really have nicknames for supermarkets?

I suppose if it's good enough for Harvey Nicks it's good enough for Sainsbobs!;):rotfl:

With me it's Tesc, the Coey and Mozzers! I also say Jonny Lou-Lou's instead of John Lewis!

PMSL at the nearly 2/23 months debate though! Maybe these mums are just trying to delay the time it takes them to turn into obnoxious teenagers?

Mom was a British introduction to America, not the other way around. My OH always called his mother Mom and she called her mother that also.

    Are you in the midlands?

Its mam or mum round here, there are definitely regional variations.

I was bought up in the west Midlands. But down in Surrey now.

I thought this was the case.

Also we should remember America was colonised by Europe.

I agree the months thing is annoying but so is "that's Americanism" or "only in xxxx" enter country in xxx.
  • My mom didn't use months after my brother reach 2.

I said to a woman the other day..."So how old is your youngest now, she must be nearly two?" She replied...."No, she's 23 months"

I thought it was just me that was irritated by that! :D

Yep, very annoying. As for the 'baby' comment earlier - it seems to be a very East London thing to refer to the youngest of the family as 'the baby'. Now that really winds me up. Referring to their say 6 year old as 'the baby'. Grrr.
