but where do you draw the line? I often refer to my kids as 'kids' even though the youngest is 18 and the oldest is 32. No longer kids any of them but if there was a more suitable word I'd use it cause its embarrassing.
i think thats different - they will always be your kids so saying they are "kids" when talking about them to others seems right to me. I'm 46 and I'm my mum's kid.0 -

For me it'll be when my son is say 4 years old and his developmental age is 2. Or when he's 3 and his developmental age is 1.5. Sadly his disability means his delays are likely to get bigger and bigger in gaps. Right now it's a bit confusing as developmentally he's not 12 months or 18 months.Wife and mother :jGrocery budget

YES! Once it reaches 1 year old why the need for months? Its not like im going to state maybe im 505 months old now am I? Or 14600 days old, 2102400 hours or 1324512000 seconds (give or take for the leap years and the time changes when clocks alter) - although it does kinda make it feel younger! :rotfl:Failure is only someone elses judgement.

Reminds me of the Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13 and three quarters! I suppose it's important at that age to aspire to be older. With the babies in months it sounds like parents are trying to keep them as babies.
To mention other bugbears: my DD1 always goes out of her way to find me a card that says Mothering Sunday on it as she has today:). That got me thinking how irritating I find the use of 'mom', so obviously imported.
As I'm way off point: I've heard that people talk of MrT, MrA, Morries and Sainsbobs (to name a few) to stop companies tracing the names in posts. Is this true or do people really have nicknames for supermarkets?
I suppose if it's good enough for Harvey Nicks it's good enough for Sainsbobs!;):rotfl:0 -
I think you just get so used to thinking in months all the way through pregnancy and year 1 that it becomes ingrained. Also a child 2 years and 1 month is going to be at a very different stage from one who's 2 years 11 months.Mortgage when started: £330,995

maman It also irritates me all this Americanism being introduced into cards in the UK these days. I too always go out of my way to find a card that says Mum or Mummy but always have to add a cross section to the top of the U (converting it to an A) as I am Welsh and don't have a mother wrapped in bandages!

Failure is only someone elses judgement.

I'm not really sure about this "Americanism" thing. I've always called my mother mom and the other children in my class called their mother mom too. I'm 28 now and its still mom.0

I said to a woman the other day..."So how old is your youngest now, she must be nearly two?" She replied...."No, she's 23 months"
I thought it was just me that was irritated by that!

Its mam or mum round here, there are definitely regional variations.0 -
