OP,
You really have to consider your risk profile if such a drop is of concern to you. You should always look at the longer term, where such a drop is only "noise".In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -

10% is quite a big drop in one week - not overly concerned - at the moment as I have under 2% in biotec - I just thought some research in order before making a decision whether to invest more.:)
As it happens I have decided to stick with what I have - I will wait and see (perhaps a drop of 30% might doo it) I feel both Biotec and Technology may be too expensive for me at the moment. Emerging markets are looking a bitt more interesting - India and LA in particular.0 -

To put it in persepctive, the AXA Biotech fund has only lost the gains since the end of Janurary. It is still up 5% on the year to date and 40% over a year. I still have faith in the sector for long term growth but there are sure to be occasional wobbles on the way.
Emerging Markets have had a tough past year or two but it finally looks as if they are turning around. My EM funds are up around 10% so far this year.0 -
the other thread re. this fund included ref. to analysis of the top 10 holdings, and that they are currently relatively expensive shares.
as a biologist, i like the sector...i think there will be lots of innovation and wealth created as a result. but 'value' is always an important factor to have in mind too.0 -
I too seemed to have bought just before it had a big drop. so sitting on around 7.5% down now. oh well, i still believe in the reasons of why i first purchased it so will stick it out. Besides as others have said, im in it for the long term but as soon as a buy a fund/stock i seem to track its ups and downs for the first week or two! but when i stop watching it grows!0

I decided to buy on the back of the recent dip, bought on Thursday just before the 3% drop on Friday meh.. When I buy a fund I do the same and watch it for a few days, then I leave it alone. It is a volatile fund and that's fine as is only 4% of my portfolio, I certainly won't be having sleepless nights if it drops heavily. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. it's taking a beating, I have more cash coming into my ISA soon, wonder if I should top up
I know you should buy low, but i'm up 71 percent overall on that fund and it has most of my allocation in my isa portfolio, and I'm totally missing exposure to EU, Japan and emerging markets, hmmmm... decisions! God knows what people with millions do, how do they sleep?0 -

They hold a wide range of different investments so that a major rise or fall in one is only of passing interest. They then hold these investments for the long term. Suggest you do the same. Having a highly volatile investment like a Biotech fund as a major holding is a serious mistake - it leads to too much stress with a good chance of long term lower returns.0
