BA or Virgin???

Hi,

I'm crossing the Atlantic this year, the prices between the two airlines aren't much.
So, which do you prefer/recommend?

On BA's new aircraft or Virgin's new aircraft ? Or old aircraft?

    I have no idea lol

I was more looking for people's opinions as they seem to be the 2 big carriers for crossing the Atlantic so I assume some people will have opinions on them.
  • Agreed, which flight is going to make a big difference. As an example, any flight out of Gatwick - Virgin wins by a mile for me. Their entire fleet there is newly refurbished now, where the BA fleet is really tired.

I will fly BA when I need their more generous cabin baggage allowance though. One of the best allowances out there, even for economy passengers. Would also consider if their flight times are better, but there's usually not much difference on my routes.

Prefer virgin PE to BA PE.
Prefer Virgin lounge (LHR) and ( JFK)to BA lounge.
Prefer BA business to Virgin Upper class.

    Cannot comment on Economy.

Virgin Atlantic, provided the flight is actually operated by VA, and not a codeshare where Continental operate the flight. (I made that mistake once and won't be repeating it!)

To me, VS are half a step up from BA

VS economy is better than BA economy
VS PE is better than BA PE
VS UC is better than BA CW

Of cause BA has First which Virgin doesnt. I've not flown BA First so cannot comment on it, in principle from what I have seen, they arent that far apart.

Lounge wise, VS, particularly at LHR and JFK is fantastic and the best I have ever been in - have been in the BA First lounge at LHR but not the Concorde Room

The only thing I havent liked about VS recently has been the lack of availability of higher tier seats for flying club upgrades or reward seats compared to BA.

If prices are comparable then BA, for their far superior cabin baggage allowance (economy), particularly if the flight is from LHR T5

    Again depends on the flight

A refurbed Virgin flight over an old tatty no air con BA flight any day.

If both old planes then possibly just BA for the cabin allowance but they are both "horrible"

    above applies to Economy
