its worth getting someone to take a look at your chimney if you are serious about using it...we have done simila in two seperate houses and TBH a grate is reasonably easy to source.

In our current house we have 2 real fireplaces that work ...one in the dining room and one in the bedroom...we found the dining room one covered up...and put in the bedroom one seperately

They really are lovely in the winter....

I used to have a real fire in my old house and I loved it, I just wasn't sure about planning regs...and convincing OH that it's a good idea, but I will definitely look into it, thanks for your advice :)

Also works well with melted chocolate but let it cool a bit first or add in a bit of cream as hot chocolate will pop balloon.

I'm now just a penny short. Those cabbages will still never taste as nice as they would have done. Nothing special in comp. here, just not 10% chpr.

[Edit: x Not even correct. It's actually 72p shortfall on the cabbages. So I am now 4 pence short, but I'm sure I'll find that down the back of the sofa:rotfl:]
