I usually switch over to flight mode overnight but even this depletes the battery faster than either Vodaphone or T-Mobile.
Nonsense, flight mode turns off all communications between the phone and the network. So there is no way battery drain in flight mode can be network related. Are you sure there isn't a rogue app trying to talk to the network and running the battery down?

I am on the Three network with an iPhone 5. If I fully charge my phone, leave data settings alone (ie it is free to check the network for e-mail, etc), disconnect the charger and leave it overnight, the drop in battery level is around 2%

3 only uses the 3g network so cant fall down to the 2g network when it cant find a signal ( but 2g is slooow data only really useful for call and txt) now with 4G in cities this is on a par Id say with 3g connections.

It could be your battery, sometimes if you charge it constantly without it ever dropping to 0% you can reduce the capacity. Its maybe like people have suggested ensuring you done have lots of apps open but Im guessing youve been used to a 2G connection which is slightly less power consumption, saying that new phones tend to have higher capacity batteries.

    So I understand.

I am not trying to explain it but simply relate what I have experienced. With the Ovivo and T-Mobile Sim I was loosing about 1% of Battery power overnight in flight mode whereas with 3 this increases to around 4%.

I can't readily identify anything that is likely to cause such a problem but I am pretty new to Windows 8 so I wouldn't rule this out. I suppose it could be the Battery Monitor app itself that is problematic although I am not sure this would explain the apparent drainage difference between networks.
