3....and battery life

Most phones use more power on a 3g networkNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

Generally, the weaker the signal, the more power a phone consumes.
So, it can be a matter of the signal strength in your location.0 -
Also the apps play a big part on how much data is used (and the amount of power required to cope with the transfers). If you are further away from your local base on a new network, output power is ramped up and power consumption increases.0

This is one thing I miss, not being able to go on 2g to save battery.0

I moved to 3 at about Christmas time and I honestly haven't noticed a shorter battery life. There must be loads of variables involved though.0

When I was on Ovivo, most of the time I was on Vodafones 2G network which tended to have a strong signal and almost no data - both of which are good for conserving battery power...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Yeah, I've found it really depends on the signal strength in your area because if you have a weak signal, it will keep trying to connect to masts which uses up battery fairly quickly. We have a really weak signal at home so I just put it onto airplane mode and turn wifi on and the battery lasts a lot longer. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0

Crikey, I see what you mean about about battery usage on 3 mobile.
I have just ported across from Ovivo (Vodaphone) and also have an old T-Mobile I use from time to time, and even with similar signal strength for all three networks where I am located there appears to be a helluva difference.
I usually switch over to flight mode overnight but even this depletes the battery faster than either Vodaphone or T-Mobile.
Fortunately I have a Nokia Lumia 720 which has superb battery life but this certainly could be a problem for those with power hungry phones who are considering moving to 3.0 -
I moved from Ovivo to '3' a while ago and didn't notice any difference in battery life.
Signal strength seems much more reliable than with Ovivo.0
