any idea where that would be in an iPhone, could only see carrier section but only lists operators not 2g or 3g.

You can't. Don't worry though, it's useless as an indication of coverage as it might get a very weak signal (think 0/5) but it would still show up in a network search.

Yeah 02 3G coverage non existent, larger towns or cities only, is EE's coverage checker accurate assuming they dont turn masts off?

It depends what phone you have. If it has 900 MHz 3g there will be a lot more O2 coverage than without.

I noticed this even more while abroad in France, that 900MHz was predominant while 2100 was fairly rare. I've looked it up for another country I may be going to, and it seems to be the case there as well.

iPhone 4s, not a clue what it has.
  • Have you tried:
    http://webcoveragemap.rootmetrics.com/uk/

It's a bit clunky compared to their iPhone App, but it shows actual measured coverage as reported by users for the 4 UK networks. Search the Apple App Store for "Rootmetrics" to download their free App.

Obviously, if nobody has used the App in your chosen location it won't show the result...
