scanning his boarding card prior to getting into the departure lounge, only means he had it scanned for Border security, Easyjet, or any other airline cannot access this info. He would have also had his Photo taken at the barrier too, for domestic flights.

Get him to fly with a decent airline next time....pay little, and you generally get little.

Stupid comment. BA, Aer Lingus etc would have made him buy a new ticket, which at the last minute would have been far more than £65. As an example, a ticket on BA for Monday is currently over £200.

My understanding is he went to check the screen when he was through into the departure lounge and saw it say boarding, when he went to the gate at around 8.30 ish, give or take, it was already closed and the rest as they say, is history.

I'm sure he'll put it down to experience, he's flown since and no problems.

You won't get anything out of any airline without taking them to court.

Given the flight did depart early, it seems quite likely that the gate did close before the '30 minutes before' cut-off time. If he's confident, he could try a small claims action against EasyJet. They could defend the claim by providing their records showing the gate closed on time, but if they can't do that then he'd almost certainly win the case.

I do think its unfair to demand a fee, if he missed the flight as a consequence of the airline not providing advance notification of flight changes.

In any regards, I'm questioning whether the airline wants to lose someone who travels with them frequently over this.

It may well have not had a time change. The pilot may just have taken advantage of a slot that became available 10 min earlier than planned because he was all loaded, ready and could leave immediately.
