Ok, I think I get the picture. Some have good experiences, some not so good. Seem to be one or two who must work for Easyjet though judging by the way they would appear to have access to certain data from the disputed flight. But thank you to everyone who gave their 'qualified' opinions on this issue.

    Oh, you're funny :rotfl:
It's amazig how many time that old chestnut is trotted out when people don't get the support they were expecting, 'you disagree with me because you work for them'. Absolutley no comprehension of the fact that people disagree with you because they're more experienced.

From what I've read there's absolutely no information in this thread that would only be available to Easyjet employees, so that rather blows your theory out of the window.

See, http://www.flightstats.co.uk/home.do nothing to do with Easyjet.

And you still haven't answered, even though you've been asked several times, how long before departure did your son arrive at the gate?

Seriously folks, I only asked for advise and I got plenty of it so it's much appreciated. But just to hopefully finish off, he tells me his boarding pass was scanned for him to get into the departure lounge, so they were aware that he was there and that he was there before the gate was due to close but that it was already closed and that nobody was there to advise so he had to go and find the Easyjet desk. He also says the airport was busy enough and there were a lot of people milling about.

Another flight to Manchester didn't have any boarding gate details on the screen (not sure what carrier) and then flashed up as departed. So maybe the airport protocols need to be looked at also.

I have let his hand go by the way, he's a very mature 2 year old, just being a dad and doing what a dad would do in circumstances like these i.e. asking for some advice.

You're all very well informed and obviously do a little bit of research into flight stats and train times etc, but he's gone this route before and up until recently, all went well.

Tongue in cheek ref Easyjet employees, should have said British Rail staff!

Get him to fly with a decent airline next time....pay little, and you generally get little.

Ah, there's the problem. He won't have learnt to tell the time yet.

Amazed they let him fly alone at that age though.

OP - the one thing you don't seem to have mentioned is what time he got to the gate.
This is the critical time - if it was any later than 30 mins before the scheduled departure time (or possibly earlier depending on what it said on his boarding pass) then it was 100% his fault.

My understanding is he went to check the screen when he was through into the departure lounge and saw it say boarding, when he went to the gate at around 8.30 ish, give or take, it was already closed and the rest as they say, is history.

I'm sure he'll put it down to experience, he's flown since and no problems.

8.30pm is too late to arrive at the gate for a 9pm flight. But I guess he knows that now.

    What a nonsensical comment.

Turn up late to the gate with any airline and you will miss the flight.

BA are one of the worst for it with conformance at Terminal 5
