Falling wholesale costs, the threat of a full competition enquiry & the ability to keep adding £100 every year to energy bills couldn't go on forever.
Anyone on fixed deals coming to an end soon, sit tight, I have a gut feeling that this announcement will lead to the other energy firms cutting bills and there will definitely be better deals to come over the next few months.0 -

Good news for their customers but I dispute their claim that they offer the longest fixed term for domestic users. I fixed mine last month until the end of April 2018.'The only thing that helps me keep my slender grip on reality is the friendship I have with my collection of singing potatoes'

They are not offering the longest term fix, they are freezing their (expensive) prices which will mean there will be no rises until (Jan 1st) 2016.0

The point is it is their Standard tariff that they are fixing - this will benefit the sixty or seventy percent who would not have switched anyway (those who switch will switch regardless). For average users they are just below average for Standard tariffs (this may vary by region). Only Edf and Eon have cheaper Standard tariffs (of the big six). (Again, for average use and may vary by region.) Once the price rises kick in in Autumn it will be better value.
Of course cheaper tariffs are available - but those who look out for them will have looked our for them anyway. A significant number of customers will be benefiting from this.0 -
They were also the last major supplier to decrease there prices so kept their variable tariff high over the whole of winter. It should have banked them more than enough cash to cover another winter compared to most of the other suppliers.0

From the Daily Telegraph report -
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/energy/10723315/SSE-freezes-energy-prices-until-2016.html
"Britain’s second-largest energy supplier, which serves about 5 million households, said the radical move would cut its profits and would be partly funded by a £100m cost-cutting programme including 500 job losses."
Not good news for employees of SSE'The only thing that helps me keep my slender grip on reality is the friendship I have with my collection of singing potatoes'

Not bad as SSE only reduced prices by an average of 3.5% just 2 days ago too

I wonder why we didn't get to read about that on the MSE News? Do they only post bad news nowadays???0 -

Because to call it good news would be a farcical distortion of the truth.
Of the big 6, SSE were dead last to reduce prices and pass on the reduction in Green Levy. BG did this 3 months ago. SSE have benefited from the full winter period of higher prices.
But I think now I know who butters your bread :cool:0 -

Those same customers who have never switched will also now think why bother switching as my prices are fixed for 20months anyway. Hardly encourages the stated desire for people to switch to get a better deal.0
