Automatic relisting may not be free.

Options
Just having a browse of Seller ebay forum and someone's pointed out that the tick box at the end of the listing form that used to say relist up to 3 times for free now says insertion fees may be charged. I've checked on my live listings and if I go to revise it does indeed now say it when it most definitely didn't before. Is this a balls up that they will fix before the weekend when my almost hundred BIN's will relist or are they planning on charging me £40 for these "free" relistings?

I'd noticed that when I checked my listings and they all have now been given a "Special Offer" of a sub title free which I don't want.

So I'm unticking all the list 3 times offer as I don't want to get charged when they all finish. I didn't think they would change the terms mid-listing but don't want to wait till the end to find out.

Thank you so much, just going through my listings now to untick them. What a swizz as it's rather sneaky to give you the option of relisting items for free, then quietly change their minds & apply the usual listing fee on the items that didn't sell first time round.

Bad, bad ebay. You're just getting too greedy & trying to find further ways to increase your profit, while unsuspecting sellers find their profits have shrunk because of a listing fee being applied when it had originally been offered for no cost.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I got worried after reading your post so just now when listing something and ticking the automatic free listing box, I was paying attention - the box says "your item will relist automatically upto 3 more times for free. This means that when it relists, you won't have to pay an insertion fee. Regardless of whether an item is an auction style or fixed price listing, it won't count against the 100 free listings monthly offer"
The way I understand it, I won't be charged anything extra and it won't come out of the monthly 100 allowance - so it is good isn't it?
    What have I missed?

Well I did all my listings at the weekend when it said on each one that you can list automatically for up to 3 times free, but now my listings mention that you can relist automatically up to 3 times but fees will apply, so watch your auctions carefully.

I'm not getting the freebies ebay offered when I did the listings & it seems they can just change their mind & pull the offer at any time they feel like it.

Listings at 99p & under are free for up to 100 listings & can be listed as many times as you want, but anything over 99p it seems can no longer get the relist for 3 times free offer.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I have just unticked all of mine, although it did say free when I listed them, but now not prepared to take the chance.
  • What a con. Surely they are not allowed to do this? offer one thing and then when hundreds or thousands of sellers fall for it, they then go and change the offer. I think they have done it on purpose as a dishonest way to get more fees as if it were a mistake they would have let sellers know. Or maybe they wouldn't. I've not trusted ebay for a long long time!
  • When does this start ?

Had an item finish Thursday 27th March 9.00am.

Received an e-mail informing me item had been relisted for "free"
Looking forward to the day I have nothing left to list on eBay

I assumed it meant that you may be charged if you changed something before it was relisted and that they were just covering themselves in case someone changed something and they charged them because of it. It does say may be charged. I'm sure you'd be fine to tick relist for up to 3 times free.

I don't think they're trying to change the terms on anyone, just give more warning. I could be wrong though.
  • Just un-ticked all mine. Offered free relisting when originally listed.
Went to re-list and charges applied.
Ebay seem to have lost the spirit of what they originally set out to do - make a reasonable profit and offer a good way for people to offload unwanted goods.
It's a minefield to use them these days and buyers want something for nothing. Don't think I'll be bothering much in the future.

Well I had 2 BIN's ending today and the rest tomorrow so I let todays and to see if I got charged and they did auto relist and charge 40p each. So I have unticked all my other BIN's even though the wording has actually changed back to say relist for free now! But clearly they are not free, the BIN's are not at least. I do have some auctions on that I hope will still relist for free as they have already relisted once last week for free.
