Wow! I wasn't expecting as many replies! Thanks everyone a lot of you have mentioned things I need to buy, so glad I have the recommendations! I have heard about the checkout system, also been advised to check my receipt before I leave the till (a friend was recently charged thirty quid for a bird bath when she had in fact bought some butter)
Is it sad that I'm excited?
Now I'm going to meal plan and write my shopping lists!

Its not like this in my neck of the woods! The car park is usually full of BMWs, Jaguars and once there was a beautiful old Rolls Royce! Old money, you know? These posh people are very careful with their money.
Asda on the other hand.......
ETA- I dont live in a posh part of the country, far from it, but there are a lot of farmers in NE Scotland!0 -

I find Aldi very refreshing, cheap prices for good food, no posters and offers all over the place, no cra*p music playing and the biggest shock was that I wasn't overcharged..the price on the shelf was the price I paid!!
makes such a difference from Tescos!0 -
We went when a new shop opened, really wanting it to be an alternative to the other supermarkets in the town (tesco / morrison). We hoped to find good stuff at decent price.
But I am afraid once was enough - maybe it was because it had just opened and lots of people were trying it out, maybe it was the less than helpful staff, maybe it was the disorganised state of the place and lack of the basics that we had one the list.
Keep thinking I ought to go back for another try as certainly 50% of the household like frikadellen and german hams etc.
DS goes to one at Uni but they have to revert to other sources for proper cereals, I mean there is a limit ;-)0 -
Our Aldi carpark is also full of lovely cars and lovely people shopping inside. The staff are really helpful and the aisles are never blocked. I recommend the chocolate, cold meats, fresh meats, individual pies and flavoured waters.
Only thing we have not liked is the frozen chips as were tasteless and the small fromage frais although I think this is more because Peppa Pig is not on the front of them.
I have halved my shopping bill (previously a Waitrose shopper) and not noticed any difference in quality :jJune GC Budget - 310/400
July GC Budget - 445/400
