Apparently Croatia is beautiful and great for kids - and suprisingly good value. I haven't been but a colleague has.

As a family of 5 we have recently had 2 trips to Disneyland for less than £1000 inc transport and our best holiday ever was Duinrell in Holland. A previous poster mentioned it. Not a single photo does that park justice. Its a magical place and the dutch are so friendly. We booked through the Sun Holidays in April for last week of August last year (missing 2 days of school but got pemission from school) and the kids said it beat Disneyland 1000 times more. Our children were 9, 7 and 2. The children run around playing together all day round in a safe environment. The weather was gorgeous, the swimming complex is better than anything in the UK. And the theme park, again, all free each and every day beats anything in this country. It had a magical feel. If I had £1000 I would be booking straight away. We drove there via P&O Dover to Calais however, wish we had just booked the Hook of Holland ferry across. The kids love the ferry journey more than the plane. PS the food in Duinrell is cheap and 5 mins walk outside the park is the cutest village ever with lovely supermarkets. We walked over every other day to buy ice cream Euro1 a scoop, and fresh BBQ food and wine. All this was within the £500 total outlay...

  • Have you considered Costa Brava area of Spain? Less than 2hrs flying time, but transfer time of about 50-60 mins. Malgrat de mar & Santa Susanna are nice 'quiet' resorts and the beaches are nice. Plenty of beachfront hotels and deals to be had. You can even catch the train for a day out in Barcelona! I'd love to go back!

a quick search gets me 1 week, end August, Half board in basic 3 star hotel for £842 + baggage + transfers (book transfers online for cheapest price and make a sandwich from breakfast buffet for lunch if money's reallllly tight :)https://www.travelrepublic.co.uk/holidays/holiday-details.aspx?sid=844b83c8-5fb3-4504-924c-71ab743e24b4&estabid=307182&rooms=91823fcf-3122-4ca4-9432-743272693c43
