I see it as both in the wrong lane."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Not quite that simple. Tykesi. All exits on that illustration are two lane, whereas only the first is on the OP's scenario. Look at rule 186. For exits other than first and right, select the "most appropriate" lane. In this situation, with two lanes on, two lanes off at the first, and a more minor second, then L2 would have been much more appropriate.0

The third is as well which is onto a motorway0 -
Both daveyjp and !!!!!! are incorrect.
Exit D is the straight on exit at this roundabout so lane one is the correct lane to use as per the HC:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Always understood that left lane for left or straight on and right lane for straight on or right, unless road markings indicate otherwise.0

Actually exit D is the second exit not the straight on exit, Rule 186 comes into play as well
Rule 186 also states:
When taking the first exit to the left, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise- signal left and approach in the left-hand lane
- keep to the left on the roundabout and continue signalling left to leave.

Attempting to make a left turn from the right hand lane without indicating is becoming the normal these days.Be happy...;)0

As does the practice of taking the left hand lane to turn right.0 -
Both daveyjp and !!!!!! are incorrect.
Exit D is the straight on exit at this roundabout so lane one is the correct lane to use as per the HC:
Without seeing the directional road sign immediately prior to point B it is not possible for me to know that it is straight on. From the image the exits B and D don't look directly opposite each other and signs can indicate this.0
