Transferring Asda mobile balance to new EE sim.

Not entirely clued up on this myself, so any help would be appreciated.

My mum is on pay as you go, on the old asda network, and now that that network has been bought by EE she will have to change sim cards. I've phoned asda this morning about transferring the money she has left on her sim now to the new sim and they said that this could not be done, is that right?

Doesn't seem right to me, is there anything that can be done about this? I asked the guy, who was extremely blunt, what would happen to the balance already left on the sim and he replied with, it'll be lost.....then dead air....i asked him if he was sure as i was told different by staff at Asda who handle mobile issues...he replied with 100% positive.......dead air......so by this point as i was receviing no help or explanations whatsoever so i gave up and hung up.

So anyway, long story short, is there anyway to transfer money left on the current sim to the new sim on the EE network?

Thanks.

The process is stated on the website:

    Thanks mate.

    From the site:

If you think you'll still have remaining credit on your old Asda Mobile service on the 30th April, don't worry we will provide you with a credit in May. You will need to come back to this website from Thursday 27th March to register a claim for any unused credit. You will need your Asda Mobile phone to hand when you fill in the required simple form so we can verify you as an Asda Mobile customer and then claim your money back by Asda e-voucher, ASDA gift card or cheque

So the guy i spoke to was basically just incompetent or lacked any real desire to explain what possibilities would be made available to me with the unused credit.

Never mind, thanks again for the info.

Keep in mind that whilst ASDA are now obliged to give you back your credit as vouchers etc it is my understanding that this could result in losing your current number & being obliged to go forward with whatever the number of the new EE SIM they will give you. I had a long discussion on the phone with them a couple of weeks ago & I did not get a definitive answer.

A good way to dispose of credit rather than simply gift it to Wal-Mart is to text it to a charity. I did this leaving me with 43pence on the phone. I then phoned a friend & chatted until it ran out! Then took my PAC code & moved my number to Three. My phone worked on the old ASDA SIM but was locked to Vodafone. Even if I moved my PAYG phone to EE with them l was going to have to get it unlocked - ASDA would not do this for free as I did not buy it as an ASDA phone. Got an online unlock service & 48 hours after conversation with ASDA it was all done & dusted. OK - it cost me to unlock & to put some Three credit on, but was happy to have moved & benefitted charity, rather than be treated as a commodity by ASDA.

We've just transferred from ASDA to Sainsbury's, they use Vodafone so there's no need to get the phone unlocked or upgraded. EE 3G doesn't work round here either. Sainsbury's transferred our numbers in 24 hours.
My daughter is transferring from ASDA Vodafone to ASDA EE and they are saying it's going to take 2 weeks to swap the number.

    jamesgg,

My wife and I both have been with ASDA Vodafone for the best part of 10 years and never had one problem.

Then ASDA switches to EE and everything has been a catastrophe.

My phone gets lousy reception and when I try to check my balance, the system is many times too congested to respond.

My wife called to get her old number transferred to the new EE sim, and after 9 days we gave up. Also, her Blackberry phone locked and I cannot get it to work now. I got my wife a new Nokia and we dumped ASDA EE and moved to Sainsbury's.

Sainsbury's is awesome! We are very light users and Sainsbury's has the same charges as the old Asda system.

I love being able to check my balance online and top up online too. Customer service is great and the woman I spoke to answered all my questions. Coverage is as good as before.

Same charges as ASDA? The problem with Sainsbury Mobile is the 50p daily data charge, this makes it hopelessly uncompetitive if you want to use data rather than just calls and text. Send one message a day by Whatsapp and it'll cost you £14 a month just for that, unless you buy a 30 day bundle.
3 123 , White Mobile or gifgaff are better deals for light users.

Does anyone know if this is still true. Spoke with ASDA today and they claim now that you do NOT lose your credit when you enable a new EE sim card and action a number transfer from your old Vodafone card.

ALTHOUGH SHE REFUSED TO PUT THIS IN WRITING AND THIS IS NOT CONFIRMED ANYWHERE ON THE ASDA MOBILE WEBSITE.

I sympathise with your frustration concerning the contradictory messages coming from ASDA. I was told that I should apply for a refund online and can then immediately initiate the transfer process. I was also told that the balance on my old ASDA number would be zeroised as soon as I had applied for the refund and that I should expect to complete the transfer over the next few days and certainly not wait until 30th April

Having applied for a refund online, the following message was displayed at the conclusion of the process:

    Thank You

Make sure that you stay with the old Asda Mobile network and use all your credit before 30th April when the service ends. After this date, we’ll check your balance and reimburse your remaining credit. If you’d like to keep your existing number, you’ll need to request a PAC code before 30th April and use it after this date to port your number across to your new network. If you want to join us on the new Asda Mobile EE network, please call our customer service team on 0845 412 2732 or order a SIM online for free.
So quite different advice depending on whether you believe the website or the call centre staff. My credit was not immediately zeroised following the refund application so I am inclined to believe the website.

Just in case anyone needs to contact Asda Mobile - DONT use their 0845 number. You can use 0800 9520101 - Option 1, then 3 then 4 then 1. It will get you through (eventually) without having to pay
