Virgin Media

Hi, My 18 month Virgin Media contract ends next month and I would like to know if anyone who in a similar situation wanted to renew it was able to negotiate a reduced monthly amount to stay with them. They haven't contacted me yet. Thanks for any thoughts on this please. :)

Yes, call up retentions, option 5 then 3, have a chat. Good deals to be had anytime, not just at the end of contracts if you are willing to go on another contract.

I just got uprgraded from 30Mb to 100Mg and from TV M to TV M+ for the same cost as before, free superhub2 etc

Your contract isn't fixed, so has no end date. If ends when you ask them, after 30 days. IF you are within your agreed minimum term then there is an early termination fee, if not, there isn't.

Your contract doesn't change - just the tariff (assuming you accept a new offer).
  • If you can afford it, I would advise paying your phone line rental up front so you can making a saving of £60 for the year, it does mean that bulk payment but then you know it out of the way and it will keep your other monthly payments down...

Thanks for your reply. So, after the 18 months minimum contract ends, you are no longer tied into a fixed period other than the 30 days notice - I didn't realize that. I just don't know if I should expect them to be open to reducing the tariff for the same services or not.

Once you are out of minimum term you hold all the aces. If they want to retain your business, they need to make you an offer. Make sure you have a better offer to give them a target to reach.
However bear in mind that with VM cable you have no other options unless you get a BT- based line provisioned or reconnected. There are no other national cable operators.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Thanks for that. I'm paying about £82 a month but then I do have two tivo boxes one 500GB, one 1TB, calls unlimited, XLTV and 60MB broadband. I would just like to get them down a bit on price particularly as they always seem to have price increases as the year progresses and I'm not sure what would be a realistic figure to start negotiations on.

You think. That has blown me away. I would never have thought I could halve that. I take it you mean with the same services I currently receive? Thanks.

Based on what evidence? Please don't get the OP's hopes up...

The current equivalent to the bundle is the premiere with a box and phone upgrade - that comes in at £80.99.

That would include an upgrade for the OP to 100mb internet, which is what the 60mb is becoming.

That's £65.00 plus £15.99 a month line rental - I would expect at best £55-60 would be the best price, but you might have to go through with the full cancellation and call back process.

It would also kick in a new 12 month minimum term.

I'm with VM. I've never contacted them about pricing/discount. What should I be saying if I attempt this? If I say I'm leaving, won't they just say goodbye? I pay about £65 for tv, phone and BB. I'm on the top TV package, but no sky sports/movies. I don't want either of these, so no point in asking for this for free etc. They keep upping the BB speed. Was 20, now 40, and going up to 80 soon I think. They don't 'charge' for these increases. This is way more than I'd ever need. I'd be happy with 2MB! Is it worth asking them to cut the speed, and reduce the price of the overall package? I also get mail offering free Tivo box. I don't want or need that either, even for free. But I would quite like their monthly bill to drop a bit!
