I don't sniff my cat - I don't have to - he stinks, honestly I swear he is rotting from the inside out. He's at the other end of the couch from me and I knew he was there before I saw him. I think he heard "Smelly Cat" once too often and decided to take it as a feline challenge. :(

um - first cat timothy smelt bluddy awful in old age - his breath could have stripped paint.
second cat nicki - he smelled of incense! well,he loved the smell of frankinsense so I used to light an incense stick for him every day. and he sat in the smoke. I cant bear the smell of that now, it makes me cry. I used to call him my 'Temple Cat'.
Present cat - just smells of CAT! love that too!

Oh, I wish it were a breath problem. Unfortunately it's the other end.

Cats shouldn't smell unless their 'bottom glands' need emptying, I thought it was only dogs, but my vet routinely does my boys as and when they're in for something else, and they smell delicious!

Bad breath could mean bad teeth/gums.

The only other thing I mention from an experience with my old boy who stank to high heaven on one occasion, was that he had a fight wound that had healed over, trapping an infection underneath, the vet removed the scab and you have never smelt anything so dreadful in your life!
Might be worth getting to the root of a badly smelling cat, as they usually are very clean animals.

My cat smells like perfume, for some reason. Even after she has just licked herself - perfume!

I love the smell of my cats, mixture of fresh washing, perfume and baby powder.

    Yummy.
    I have a simple philosophy:
Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. Scratch where it itches.

Although I'm not an active cat sniffer, both cats like to be in my personal space at all times so I've had ample opportunity to have a smell.

The moggie just smells of cat, really. The maine coon smells like a sheepskin rug, or grass after he has been outside. He does have smelly breath though (checked out, no problems apparently).

ETA: Just read the whole link. I'd like to clarify that I've never taken any part in ear nibbling. I leave that to the cats.
  • I sniff mine when they come in, to see where they've been! Often they smell of rosemary, or lavender so I know they've been basking in the front garden by the path. Occasionally, someone will smell faintly of aftershave or perfume - and not one I know/own, so they clearly have cat adoring foster parents close by!
