I have tried DFU restore 3 times now and no joy. The error states to check latest version of itunes, disabling anti virus and removing other usb devices. I have tried all this, I have done a fresh install of itunes, made a new user and installed itunes, used another laptop. And also taken it to a apple registered center where they tried to restore and failed.

I have booked it into a genius bar on Saturday in Sheffield but it means driving 60 miles to get there.

Have you tried restoring it from a back up? This sometimes works as it reinstalls the previous iOS.
Also, have you tried using iTunes with an alternative internet connection? Again, I have read about people having issues due to the security settings of their router.

I had a similar issue with an iPod touch once... It wouldn't restore in Windows for love nor money. I plugged it into the OH's Mac though and the restore worked perfectly. The issue was something to do with the iTunes install on Windows.

Not saying this will work for you, but if you have a friend whose Mac you could borrow for 10 mins it could be worth a try!

As others have said, I'm pretty sure you cant brick any IOS device, you need to try the DFU restore on a different PC/Laptop, even a faulty cable can cause errors in restoring

Does it actually give you an error code?

As I have said I took it to KRCS Group which is an apple specialist and they tried to restore it for me, using a mac and I would assume they were using an up to date version of iTunes. They could not restore it either and got the same error which is error (1)

I have looked through a lot of the discussions on the apple forums and a lot of people have had the same problem after doing an update and if its withing warranty then Apple just replace it. If its out of warranty then you have to pay £265 for a new one.

I will see what happens at the Genius bar on Saturday.

Thanks for the suggestions though :)

I am apple qualified and there are only certain ways to obtain that certification and I can tell you it can be fixed as mentioned above, guarantee the genius bar will sort it. Keep us updated

    Define Apple Qualified?

I am Apple Sales Professional qualified, and I'll be the first to admit it's not the most exclusive qualification...

Been to the apple store today in Meadowhall. They tried to restore it but it failed with the same error we get (error 1). As its out of the warranty they want me to pay £265 for a replacement (the only good thing is they only have air's available) so I would get one of those, but I don't have £265 and really don't see why I should pay for their hardware fault.

We argued with the manager for a while but he couldn't help us any further. He did however suggest we claim on our house insurance by dropping it down the stairs. However im not the type to commit insurance fraud and don't want to increase my premiums.

Looks like I now own a very expensive tray. :(
