I am currently with Eon on their 1 year fixed version 4 Dual Fuel tariff. On March 19th I started a switch to Extra Energy's Fixed September 2015 version 2 tariff, after comparing on Energy Helpline. I received an acknowledgement from Energy Helpline, but after 3 weeks had heard nothing from Extra Energy.
I contacted Extra Energy and was advised that they had no record of my 'switch request' because during the period that I had used Energy Helpline there had been a problem with the 'system' and none of my details or any other customers details had been transferred to them by Energy Helpline. I was advised to go back to the Energy Helpline website and apply for the switch again, which I did on 4th April, receiving a further confirmation from Energy Helpline.
I received an email letter from Extra Energy yesterday advising me that they would be unable to progress my switching request because I am an 'Economy 7' customer.
I am not an 'Economy 7' customer and have never been one, although the Electricity Meter that is installed is a digital 'Multi Rate Watt Hour Meter' which records both day and night as well as total usage.
I contacted my current supplier, Eon, who confirmed that I AM NOT an 'Economy 7' Customer, but do have a meter capable of being on 'Economy 7'.
I have attempted to explain to Extra Energy that I am NOT an 'Economy 7' customer and never have been. They state that because I have an 'Industry Standard Multi Rate Economy 7 style meter' their system is only capable of dealing with my electricity supply as if it is 'Economy 7' and if I wish to switch I would have to go onto their 'Economy 7' tariff.
So be warned - if your meter is a 'Multi Rate Watt Hour Meter' or any other meter that is recognised by the industry as one which can be used for 'Economy 7', there's no point in you trying to switch to Extra Energy because unlike any other company that I have previously been supplied by, which includes Eon, EDF, British Gas and NPower, Extra Energy are not capable of coping with an 'Industry Standard Electricity Meter'!
My experience with an E7 meter was that some companys would leave it and add the two readings together whereas others would only allow you to transfer as an E7 customer.

I transferred to EDF when they were offering the Blue+ April 14 from EON. I was not an E7 customer with EON as they added the two readings but EDF would only accept me as an E7 customer so I had to switch to them and become an E7 customer, but after 28 days they changed the meter free. I know a lot of companys charge for this but once its changed it makes switching so much easier.

I've just signed up to switch a couple of days ago, the suggested saving of £243 on my current supplier (which is still showing as cheapest option on all other switching sites) was just too good to resist. Really hope the usual rule that if it looks to good to be true it usually isn't doesn't apply here!

Well I have another two days left of my cooling off period and after speaking to ExtraEnergy not sure this is the company for me. They are not fully up and running at the moment and if I view my account online and you click on a heading for something it just says come back soon as not available yet.

The payment from Energyhelpine would be £40 and a saving of £37 a year. Also the company I am with now allows me to pay qtrly and can use my debit or cashback credit card.

I set up my on line account today and although full account management is not available - viewing bills, managing DD, and making payments - it states they will be available in a few weeks. Meter readings can be input and I would expect any bill would be sent by e-mail. No real big deal at the moment and they seem to be ahead of NPower with their system at the moment !

Pondering whether or not to take the plunge and switch.

Does anyone know what would happen if shortly after I switched over to them, ExtraEnergy being, a new company ran into difficulties and, folded. What would happen to the fixed prices, would whichever company inherited them have to honour the prices and length of fix etc?

Well I am now officially an Extra Energy customer...I have had 4 "Welcome" emails telling me so :rotfl:

One thing. I registered on the on-line portal previously but when I went to sign in just now, I was informed by a Chrome extension that the site could be vulnerable to the Heartbleed SSL bug :o
This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

Tbh, there seems to be a lot of new suppliers on the market (Well I say a lot), relatively recently ie: in the past few months. Some are having troubles with getting their IGT licence for gas, for example ie: better energy, and Daligas. Im not sure if Zog Energy have that issue

Any way, these companies TEND to be the cheapest for gas, I found

Extra Enery and Flow Energy seem to be very new, and Im guessing its just trying to expand the market a little, by allowing newer companies to create more competition

Now if only Santander recognised these as utility companies :D

Living in the East Midlands, I have taken the plunge and switched now to Extra Energy via Topcashback for electricity, as the EDF April 14 fix is only a couple of weeks off ending. I am hoping EDF are advised about the switch before the end of the month and then keep their promise to hold the price at the current rate until the switch goes through as long as they hear before the end of the deal.

I have also switched to Zog for gas, but could not do this via a cashback site & switching site (Energyhelpline told me that Zog does not support [ie pay] them to do the switch, and none of the others such as Uswitch even gave Zog mention despite it being the cheapest). Strangely, the Zog site did not ask me which company I am currently with for gas when I switched, so presumably they can find this out through feeding my address into their computer - unless they are going to email me later to ask.

Feel quite liberated now I've made the decision and done the switches, and thank you all for your discussions and help, which I have been following.
