I am still waiting for Talk Talk or Virgin to give me back my landline number now seven weeks after changing. Not happy as they keep blaming each other.

Hello Kazaa. I am sorry to hear about your situation. Nowadays all the main phone companies involve you in 12, 18 or 24 month contracts, with substantial early termination charges. When you moved house you DID start such a contract with TalkTalk. When their service was unsatisfactory, you decided to give up on getting them to fix the problems, and instead cancelled your contract. Inevitably their automatic billing processes have implemented the early termination charges. If by any chance you have cancelled your DD, then you will get an extra charge for every time they fail to collect the amount they consider is owing to them.

Now is the time to write a letter to their customer service department spelling out the situation and asking them to put the charges on hold while you negotiate some sensible arrangement.

Maybe if you have not actually signed up with someone else, you could go back and get TT to reinstate your contract, back out the cancellation charges and reinstate the service.
