Forgive the stupid question about changing broadband!

As per the title, apologies in advance for the stupid question!
I am changing from Talk Talk to Sky as my broadband supplier, and now have confirmation of the order from Sky. I ticked the box to say that I would like to keep my present landline number
My query is, does it work like changing gas and electricity, and I don't need to do anything about contacting my existing supplier, or do I need to contact Talk Talk to cancel with them?

Not a stupid question as the switching process can vary. You are correct in your thinking; Sky should handle the switch over. Please see link below.

They should be we often see stories of the old ISP continuing to bill. Once you have your date it will pay to make shure that TalkTalk are aware that you are switching to Sky and that your account with them gets closed.
Here is a recent tale of woe. That may all end up OK but I wouldn't put any bets on it so avoid the chance of it happening to you.0 -

Yes, I'd second that.0 -
Talk Talk were fined in 2011 for charging for services they no longer provided. They are STILL doing it. It seems to make no difference if you are on LLU, BT (so need a MAC), equipment or if you contact Talk Talk to inform them directly of the switch. There is just as much chance they will continue to bill you after the switch. Best thing to do is contact sky (via the webchat if possible) and Talk Talk. Make sure you record the conversations and keep records of emails/web chats. Check your bank for a couple of months after to make sure the are not billing or cancel the DD. There is a better than fair chance they will continue to bill then deny all knowledge of the switch.0

If you are on a full TT LLU service then it's very unlikely that you can switch direct to Sky LLU unless they provision a new line. You may need to do a return to donor via BT otherwise.
Never rely on the incoming supplier to 'do it all'. Once you have a switch date from Sky, contact TT to give your notice. No free lunch, and no free laptop

One more thing. Do not cancel the TalkTalk DD until the final bill from them has been dealt with. If it is an amount payable to them, and they can't collect it, they will penalise you. If it is an amount due to you, they need the DD to be active so they can refund. Only cancel the DD when no further tansactions are pending.0

I'm no fan of Talk Talk but if you only moved to them two months ago the email or letter you got from them would have said you had a 12 or 18 month contract with them so I'm not sure how they "hide it well".I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
