DAF = Deferment Application Form... The new and *cough* improved form was ready at the end of February.... If you intend to use one get on to erudio straight away.... I suspect there may be some delays in their processing....
...wouldn't you think they could just have the forms online that could then be printed out? Especially as they are so keen to use technology to make us all aware of our new terms and conditions.

Yeah - but then they'd be short of a delaying tactic for forcing people into arrears........
  • I am in arrears of around £600 on a £7000 debt. I don't want the hassle of them cancelling my deferment (im now deferred after failing to supply paperwork on time) -- I don't trust this company at all but want to get out of arrears and continue deferring each year as I have been....so best way to pay assuming I don't want them knowing if I have any bank account/s in the uk??? can I make smaller payments over 6 months or a year? do I have to pay it all in 1 go? thanks

I suspect that is something you would need to negotiate with Erudio. They should be reasonable if you made an honest mistake but you cannot count on it. My advice would be to pay the arrears off asap, especially in light of the current threats of reporting loans to CRAs. They may also try to use this as a way of stopping your loans being cancelled.

Sorry Jonez, it was my attempt at being sarcastic... Its clear they hope to make deferment as difficult as possible for those that comply and exasperating for those that don't... I wonder how many people will get caught out? I was speaking to a friend of mine from my uni days and he filled in the first DAF not even thinking.... He said he just thought the government had rebranded SLC. He was most upset when I explained all this $:!t to him! The more people they stuff around though, the more likely we will draw people to our ranks to be educated in the ways of erudio and the more noise that is made, the more chance we have of setting things right again.

Through one way or the other, ive found out they were officially saying the DAFs were sent out on the 10th March. But now, Capita are saying the forms will arrive in the first week of April. You can get one early if you decide to give them an email address. Maybe some have already got theirs from the reported 10th March send out, but in reality, if my case is not unique, most will be getting them a 'planned' 5 weeks before the DAF deadline. They stated to me I need to get the DAF back within 2 weeks before they start taking out DDs. It doesn't leave much time, especially if you have paperwork to acquire or you live abroad.
This is their choice to leave it as close to the 5 week deadline as possible, which, again, i suggest doesn't 'treat customers fairly', it actually treats them with disdain, creating a pathetic game of cat and mouse. Is this what BIS new it would come down to, i doubt it very much, but it is time for them to sort this mess out. If the majority of forms go out, the DAFs will have to be processed in short a short amount of time that many many more will be getting those DD put into use.
Each to their own, but my suggestion is for people to file a complaint with Erudio just on this issue (not forgetting what the signature may be signing over which is worth a complaint in itself for being unclear), probably as close to your deadline as possible to make sure that collection activity is suspended. Like last year i guess. Strange how they were posting DAFs out 8 weeks before last year, now they are deliberately posting them out as close as they can to 5 weeks before.
Of course, it seems now like we don't need to complete a DAF anymore if we choose not to and take that approach, but the actual operational approach they are using is making it virtually impossible to know what to do, and surely that seriously breaches some official code of conduct. We dont get the DAFs until 5 weeks before the deadline, we dont know what the hell we are signing over by singing the DAF, and anyone mailing the DAF in shorter than 3 weeks ahead will have to be extra vigilant about watching their bank accounts because there is no trust Capita have enough staff working for them to process X00,000 DAFs in such a short space of time (like last year). And if the post messes up or there is some glitch, it leaves virtually no time to sort something out before they start taking Direct Debits. To say confidence in this joke of a business is at an all time low from my perspective is quite something, as i already had none, but mailing out the DAFs so close to the deferral deadline is a new low, even for these bumholes.

I got an amazingly quick reply to my email (2 working days) - saying a DAF had been sent (and reminding me when my deferral period ends) and that one was attached to the email (as I requested).

    And it was (Shock horror!).

It doesn't have my reference number on it just a generic number, but you can't have everything!

Now need to put aside a few hours to deal with the paperwork tomorrow and get it sent off recorded.......

yeah, I cant be bothered with the FOS and assume no good will arise from it....it was my mistake they didn't receive the paperwork, even tho they never bothered to inform me I was going ito arrears until I contacted them many month later to see what was happening....anyhow...will pay and as im earning under the threshold I can continue to defer for the future

    thanks

They also replied to me quickly with an emailed form. I just don't have a printer so can't access it that way.
You can't fill it in online and send back that way.
I've requested they post a copy and they've said they will but no sign yet.

Hope it arrives soon for you. My postal one hasn't materialised as yet either. I am going to send it back recorded anyway and probably email them a copy (should they lose the original - like that would happen:rotfl:) and ask them to confirm via email that they received the Recorded delivery sent on X date and signed for at x time on x date......

Heres a link to the new DAF posted by Anna if you dont want to contact Erudio and request one. How ridiculous is this that we have to pass around the Deferment form. It could be very useful to get a head start because they will be getting X00,000 to process in just a few weeks, which will mean many DDs being stolen and people not being deferred in time. This should give us an extra 2-3 weeks to get sorted and get them returned in a timely manner, hopefully scuppering some of Erudio's plans to catch people out (who have cancelled their DDs before) by not processing the DAFs on time and testing that no DD in place/payment being due catch that could potentially make them one of the most hated companies in the UK:
