  • By the way does anyone know if erudio still have to write of the debt for health reasons ie. you are unable to work again.
They must have to, as this is in the original terms and conditions?
Can't see them doing it some how.

I'm yet another wish-I'd-never-signed-up-for-a-student-loan person now unfortunately stuck with Erudio....

I've been looking through the threads on this with interest.

It seems Erudio are everything I feared. And I'm still not sure whether my deferred 1997 loan will be reported to a CRA...

I also have a post-1998 loan and understand that Erudio can't report it to a CRA simply for being in deferment. But what about my 1997 loan?

I've always deferred because I've never earned enough. I've struggled with a long-term health condition so have also had periods on sickness benefits. I'm not at all happy that my details might be passed to a CRA for a deferment (rather than default).

I'm furious about the sale. With hand on heart I would never ever have signed the loan agreement had I realised it could be sold on. I was stupid, and now know I didn't analyse the small print sufficiently.

It is my own fault for signing the agreement. But I do remember clearly the student finance people reassuring us (many of us were nervous about getting loans) that this loan was different: it was safe - "it was with the government" and no need to repay unless earning a sufficient amount.

Is there any point writing to Erudio requesting/demanding that they don't pass my details to a CRA? Or can they legally just ignore my wishes?
  • got my deferrment confirmation letter through today phew

I have today received a letter from Erudio saying that my deferral application has been rejected due to lack of evidence. The only income I have is child benefit and carer's allowance as my child is disabled. I am on a DMP already and they are asking me to send copies of my bank statements which I really do not want to do as I don't feel I am required to back up my finances in this way, am I? I have never had issue before with student loans deferral and the idiot I spoke to on the phone called me snotty at one point so I have emailed and lodged a complaint about that.
I am doing an OU course and because I am on benefits have received a part time fee grant covering my course which totalled £430 - this they are claiming is a monthly income which I never said it was.
I am so stressed out about this it is unbelievable. Does anyone have any advice?
    Thanks
    Emma

This whole issue of direct debits being wrongly take probably deserves a thread of it's own, so posts moved here.

just done a little search of an ISP address from which someone found from an email send out by Erudio (we may need to change who we say we are in contact with from this point on) that was posted on mumsnet, so thought i would post what i found by searching that ISP. Please forgive me for my indulgent speculation at the end:
After googling the IP address, i found this:
    https://whois.domaintools.com/195.59.101.165
    which says
    person: Roger Jones
    address: Ventura
    address: Hepworth House
    address: Claypit Lane
    address: Leeds
    address: West Yorkshire
    address: LS2 8EA

I searched Hepworth house and got this, pretty much verifying that it is actually Capita who is dealing with all our inquiries, definitely our emails, but more than likely our phone calls as well because our calls also go to a Leeds number. Here is Hepworth house's location:

    www.capitacustomermanagement.co.uk/media/53473/cube%20-%20hepworth.pdf

and here is the main email page of the company residing there:
    www.capitacustomermanagement.co.uk/

Also found last week, Capita deals with Honours Student Loans phone calls as well. As such, and in conclusion, i think we will find that Erudio is actually a very small company, and IF they have outsourced the deferment process as well, probably consists of not many more people than just 1 man: Mr Mark Howard Filer.

oh, i forgot to add rather importantly, on my search, the Roger Jones connected to the Erudio ISP email address is from Ventura, which, in this link, describes itself as Outsourcing experts, and now owned by Capita (http://www.capitacustomermanagement.co.uk/why-capita/history):

In July 2011 Capita announced the acquisition of Ventura, a customer contact specialist with around 8000 employees, mainly in Yorkshire, Cardiff, Milton Keynes and Pune, India.

Operating since 1968 Ventura was the third party customer services management arm of Next plc and managed more than 50 million customer contacts each year for a range of private and public sector clients including O2, Orange, British Gas, British Midland and Department for Work and Pensions.

The acquisition increased Capita's capacity for customer management services, providing additional front office services and flexible capacity for existing Capita clients and also gives the opportunity to provide Ventura's client base with access to Capita's wider service offering.

Me again: As such, anyone wishing to make a more personal complaint about staffing confusion may want to read the following info closely and make a more personal complaint that wont require stating their !!!!ing date of birth...or just to ask if they really are the people pretending to be Erudio. Mr Jones though, has left Ventura now, so be prepared to speak to a new clone:

    Hi,

I have three of the old 'mortgage style' student loans that I took out between 1991 and 1993. For a number of years I have been succesfully deferring with the SLC, as I have always fallen below the income threshold. I am due to defer again, but I'm worried about whether I should mention interest on my savings accounts which don't amount to that much (say £25 to £30 pcm).

It appears on Erudio's form that if I do this I have to provide statements to show the interest accrued. This is quite creepy because I don't want them (a debt collection agency) to know how much money I have in my savings accounts. This also adds more and more tedious bureaucracy to the deferment process and looks to me like Erudio are using attrition to grind people down.

There is a very threatening warning letter on their form with black background and white lettering suggesting possible civil action against 'omissions' or 'false information'. Do Erudio have the power to look up all kinds of private information about me, such as savings? Surely, wage slips should suffice as the terms and conditions of paying and deferring relate to main income from work?

What is the reach of these people and is it worth declaring any savings even though the humble interest earned on them does not exceed the income threshold? Why should they know every nook and cranny of my financial circumstances? This can't be right.

its worse than that, it isnt just Erudio, it seems that they have subcontracted the work out, so now more than just one of these organisations has all our info!
I agree with you, it is rather shocking. And from what i understand, they could pass on all such important info to their 'partners' etc.We certainly do need some clarification about who we are sending our info to and what is being passed on! It should only be Erudio, but my impression right now, is that they dont exist but in name and, unless they prove otherwise, Capita/Ventura are the people we are dealing with and sending all our documents to!
  • Well HMRC are already linked up with Experian (they are partners you see, so they can get around sharing people's private data that way) who are linked up with arrow global who own erudio (you can see where all this is going!)
