Yes, we have a Samsung and it has apps coming out of it's ears, with the ability to add more. It's wireless too.

I'm watching YouTube on it now.

That pretty much looks like the choice I get on my set.

Wow! I wonder if all the apps are available to all the Samsung TV's.

All Samsung smarts TV's, yes. They aren't cheep mind, my 22" Samsung Smart TV cost me £250 a year ago (now about £220). If you want (most of) the main 4 TV stations on-demand services, maybe consider using the Now TV box. You can get BBC iPlayer, 4OD, and Demand 5 (you don't need to carry on with the Now TV subscription services).

If you get a "SmartTV" and connect it to your network it should be able to play any video/picture/music files on a PC on the network.

You just need to share the folder and the TV should have an option to "view network shares" or if you have set up Windows Player properly "Windows Media Share" (Windows Media Player automatically shares it's content to "DNLA" capable viewing devices).

Some SmartTV's have specific inbuilt apps to talk to some "Media servers" which you can install on your Main PC:
The 2 biggest examples are :
    "Plex" http://plex.tv
    "XBMC" http://xbmc.org
They organise your Media and give it a more human interface.

As for apps. most if not all SmartTV's will have the big catchup services as well as Netflix / Amazon (Lovefilm) as well as NowTV (SKY's subscription service) as well as other internaet based services like YouTube, Ted Talks, Vimo. Even "Skype" "Twitter" and "Facebook" apps are avalible!lol

further up , don't forget the tv/internet box option ...... its easier to upgrade the tv box or change it than change the whole tv.

    Hi SOlitaire

Any chance you could explain a bit more about a home network and what it is? I have 3 smart TVs and laptops. Could I do something with these to create a home network?

Be aware that "SMART TVs" are usually only smart in today's terms, many don't ever get "over the air / internet" firmware updates for this year's latest "thing". Just a devil's [STRIKE]solicitor[/STRIKE] advocate.

You can't. The media server is installed on the computer where the media is, not on the TV used to view the media.

Windows 7 has a basic media server built in so you may not need to install another one. It will depend on what format any video files you may want to see on the TV are in.

You might be better posting the request as a separate thread to get more help
