Do all Smart Tv have the same apps?

Hi I am thinking about getting a smart TV for the back room.
We have a very 'iffy' ariel connection there, so I thought that at least with a smart TV I could watch catch up TV.
Can I choose any smart tv to watch catch up or do they all offer different apps?
Do smart TV's connect to the network?
I was looking at getting a dvd player too but wondered if the boys old PS2 would do the trick.( It comes with a remote)
If so is it tricky to connect?
any suggestions would be fab

Might depend on the Manf of the TV, the 32 I recently bought has quite a few apps plus all the catchup services, if you check any reviews for any smart tv you see you can determine if they have the same apps.xxdeebeexx wrote: »

Yes it would do, how it wuld connect depends on the tv, can connect via ethernet, wifi or a dongle
Yes I believe the PS2 can play dvds, should be easy to connect, picture may not be the best mind.
This is the TV I now have, its got all the catchup services I need, and same with the apps.0 -

Thank you for such a detailed reply.
I was wondering if I would be able to 'see' my laptop over the network and share photos, music and saved movies.
I need to do a bit more research. There were a couple of smart tvs under £200 in Currys. I thought it was too good to be true so thought they must be lacking something.
I have powerline adapters that could be used if the TV isn't wireless,
thanks

Cant answer about the laptop question.
What screen size are you after ?
Is £200 your limit ?0 -

Looking at 32" - no bigger.
Yes, I was hoping to get one for about £200.
I was hoping to be able to connect to all the catch up tv. I have a subscription to Now tv that I won last year, but I won't be renewing when it runs out in a couple of months, so that isn't too important.
I quite like blinkbox and I sometimes rent films from ITunes.
I sometimes watch films from the Tesco website.
thanks

From whats in my house...
LG have YOUTUBE, NETFLIX, LOVEFILM, BBC IPLAYER AND CHANNEL 5 DEMAND apps
PANASONIC have NETFLIX, YOUTUBE AND BBC IPLAYER
SAMSUNG have all of the above plus ITV PLAYER & CHANNEL 4 ON DEMAND
I now opt for Samsung as they appear to have all the best apps.
All the above also have their own share of less known apps that look more like games for kids etc

Thank you so much for your reply. It seems daft that some smart TV's are smarter than others! I had an inkling that they weren't all the same.
Looks like I need a Samsung
many thanks

Yes, we have a Samsung and it has apps coming out of it's ears, with the ability to add more. It's wireless too.
I'm watching YouTube on it now.0 -

Wow! I wonder if all the apps are available to all the Samsung TV's.
I will do my research!
