    the type of person that says;

    'I'm not stacking shelves in Tesco...'

    I wouldn't normally have considered 'stacking shelves' but applied for such at Asda a good few months ago - and failed the online test!!:eek:

    I was quite relieved in a way, but at least I tried :D

    Me too - applied for a Peoples Clerk which was accounts based in a new store for local people only to apply and I failed the test which was all stock/accounts based. You can not apply again for 6 months for any job in the whole of ASDA

    Sometimes its not about the fail it could be too good and that's a fact.

    How intelligent is it? Could you get a new email address and apply again in amonth?

    I don't think people being considered over-qualified for a job happens as much these days, partly because so many people have degrees (although lots of people probably consider themselves to be over-qualified). There are an awful lot of graduates working in call centres, shops etc.

    I recently completed a degree but am not looking for a graduate level job, partly because of my age. However, I am looking for work that is related to my degree. I'm not claiming JSA so am not applying for any and every job.

    Having said all that, a rocket scientist might struggle to get a cleaning job (and vice versa, of course!)

    A graduate with no work experience can not be over qualified to be fair. If they had a degree and 15 years work exp they would be but it has nothing to do with qualifications it's what you have done in the past. I dont have a degree but would be over qualified for a junior role in an office.

    Its a tricky one. Personally, I would do absolutely anything at all if I had to, I just cant imagine an employer looking at my CV, seeing 15 years worth of science research experience and considering me a viable candidate. Cant blame them either to be honest. I know that people think that the unemployed should take anything going, but I don't think its as simple (or as easy) as all that.

    I am extremely fortunate in that I am a very experienced personal tutor so I always have that to fall on if I had to. I don't enjoy it, but hell would have to freeze over before I claim JSA (I am rather anti-establishment and wouldn't stand for some civil servant ¨lording it¨ and telling me what I can and cant do just so I can get a miserly £70)

    Good point, although I think it depends to some extent on what subject the degree is in. Also, in the past, people would possibly be reluctant to take a graduate on in a non graduate role because they thought they would only stay until they could get a graduate role.

    Many years ago I was a waitress and worked in a very prestigious hotel. When I left I was turned down by one hotel because they thought I would consider working for them to be somehow beneath me! Luckily there were many other jobs I could apply for and I was employed in no time.
