Hi again, thanks for the help :)

Am currently sanding it again with a 120 paper will be going over it a second time with a 180 paper, then washing it down and starting the protection process again, as I'm using a hand sander this time I'm doing it in 15 minute per hour bursts ( good job I have the week off) I reckon it gonna take me the rest of the week to finish sanding then this weekend we will prep the rest of the floor before doing the last protecting on Sunday, I think the plan is then to leave it till next we'd or so before we slowly move the furniture back in

I've been finding that yes the husband has went the wrong way, and with the orbital sander we hired for corners etc it has taken quite a lot our of the wood, so it looking lumpy in places, I'm trying to smooth it out as much as I can but I'm gonna be honest and say I can still see the marks :(

Ahh well I'm sure I will get there in the end

Phoned a flooring company, was given some further advice, due to the fact the treatex has an oil in it which will have sunk Into the wood I have been advised to used a coarser than 120 sander, so am going back over it again with an 80 then the 120 then hopefully 180 so three times sanded

He also suggested I use a polyurethane coating which I should dilute by 10% with white spirit, I should also give it 3 coats a day apart each and put it on with a brush ... Now I'm not sure if he was just saying this for a sale or not to be honest but it seems that I have a lot of work ahead of me

you might be better with a belt sander for removing the lumpy bits.

no the man is right and you will need to sand after the first coat also as it will bring the tiny wood ends up, youll feel it the next day when you run your hand over it. but only a very light sanding and then the last two coats will go on easier.

I did say it was hard work, but your doing right by keep asking if your not sure. only dilute the 1st coat so it sinks into the wood like a paint primer would, then full strength for final two.

don't forget the pic at the end.;)

are they gouges that hubby did with sander, going wrong way

do they feel smooth or can you feel the slight undulations with your hands

if smooth id say its the old laquer still on,

if as above they need sanding as I said best with a belt sander.

as the marks appear to cross from the differing planks its unlikely to be the wood grain or they wouldn't match up.

Yes they do feel slightly undulating tbh, I think it was hubby with his sander as I have found more and as I noticed the start of one on a board I kept a wee eye on it and yes it spread over a few boards, the weird thing is the treatex covered it ?

Ok so I need to go and buy a belt sander then ... Hmmm that will have to be tomorrow now

I've done about 3/4 of one lot of sanding, can I carry on with that lot and do the second lot with a belt sander or do u think I should start from scratch again ?
